Since updating to Firefox 40.0 (in OS X 10.9.5) browser windows and the toolbar show strange black lines and squares when the window is resized. Websites are messed up with black backgrounds or disappear beneath a black layer. The toolbar often disappears too, except for the three Mac resize buttons. It renders Firefox completely unusable.

It’s similar to what is described here: https://support.mozilla.org/nl/questions/1071126 and the bug described here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1032769

None of the offered solutions or workarounds seems to help. Disabling all add-ons and extensions doesn’t help either. I only use the Default theme.

Solution To my own surprise the issue disappeared completely when I installed and started to use another theme (Simple White)…

So it seems that Firefox’s Default theme has a serious bug?

I'm using a 2010 Mac OSX 10.9.4 Mavericks, I just updated Firefox and when I try to search for a word on a tab with Cmd +F (would be Ctl +F on Windows) nothing comes up. Other areas have said to use F3 now, but that doesn't work either, and neither does fn+F3. I don't want to download an app to fix this because they all seem to be large and bulky to use, rather than the small bar at the bottom, which I liked.

The title says it all. I have the problem, it seems to go away, then it comes up again, and again, and again, and now it's here and seems to be here to stay. I have experienced this with generations of Macs and operating systems. I am currently running a very recent OS and the most recent Firefox. And, yes, I tried the about:config thing. It didn't work either. My preferences for this functionality were enabled. This cannot be rocket science people. I wish that you would just fix it, permanently. I am tired of transferring to Safari just to paste a block of text or a hyperlink into a Yahoo email! Thanks. I am still a supporter, and have been since 1996, in the days of Mac Mozaic! Richard S.

Duplicate (i.e.2) Firefox icons have appeared on my i-Mac toolbar. How do I remove one of these icons, please? Don't want to remove Firefox!! Have tried the "recommended" Apple method, i.e. dragging one of these icons and holding on to it ....then the duplicate icon should disappear. But it doesn't disappear ....the duplicate icon then just "jumps" back on to my tool bar at the bottom of the screen.

Have also tried holding the "command " key and then dragging the unwanted icon and holding on to it ...... but the same thing happens ......instead of disappearing, the icon just "jumps" back to my tool bar. Would be so grateful for any help and advice re the above. Thank you in anticipation of your kind help.

I'm using FirefoxDeveloperEdition on a Mac.

If a website sends me JSON data with a content-type header "application/json", then firefox displays the data using a very friendly built-in JSON viewer.

If the website sends exactly the same data, but with a content-type header "application/vnd.api+json", then firefox only knows how to save the file.

In the preferences, under "Files and applications", I can see an entry for "application/vnd.api+json" (but not "application/json").

How can I tell firefox to use its built-in viewer for responses with a jsonapi mime type?

We have launched a new responsive version of our website: www.thevintagewall.com. The main page has an image slider with clickable image map hyperlinks (unconventional, I know). The image maps work perfectly on all Mac desktop browsers (eg. Safari, Chrome), except for Firefox. We are using v. 59.0.1. When hovering over the image map areas, the pointer turns to a finger, so the browser is acknowledging the links, but just won't click on them (FYI - right click with mouse, then selecting 'Open link in new tab' will work). Does anyone know of a workaround or any coding specific to Firefox that will make these image maps work?

For a while now my firefox browser has had some issues, Netflix will load onto the main homepage but it won't load fully, leaving icons rotating at the bottom and unable to click on a show or search for any - however loads fine on safari. It also won't let me buy things on amazon - it takes me to the checkout but then won't load when I click buy. Once again I am able to purchase on safari. However I am unable to use safari efficiently because it must have a virus as it gets tons of pop up ads that block the screen.

I've downloaded silverlight and tried following instructions on here, however it hasn't improved. I'm not techy at all so am struggling to understand what the problem is? I have Macbook pro which is nearly 3 years old.

Thankyou for any help!

This only happens in Firefox and not Safari, which I do not normally use as I prefer Firefox. Many thanks.

I am looking for a preference I can embed in a CKK2 deployment of Firefox that will disable the installation of apps. ie. browser.apps.enabled (Boolean, Default=True, True permits apps to be installed, False denies any attempt at installing apps).

Barring that, I'd need to make some way to make the Tools>Apps option go away and advise the network admin to blacklist the apps marketplace site.

Thank you!

Using a school supplied MacBook Pro (I teach mathematics in Boston Public Schools). The OS is 10.9.5 Just upgraded Firefox 38.0.1 I set the remember history but the library does not have any entries in it.

I also use firefox at home on my imac and do not experience this problem. Firefox is my browser of choice and I really need this to work as it would be very useful to have my browser history available on my school machine.

Thank you very much for your help,

Hello,

Ive been using firefox for a while now, and until now, ive never experienced a problem like this.

Firefox crashed last night while i was asleep, and when i woke up this morning to turn it back on, the crash reporter asked me if i wanted to restart firefox, i did so, however when it loaded, rather than asking if i wanted to restore my previous session, it loaded a blank page which had an unusual looking blank patch at the top where the tabs bar is supposed to be, with the tabs loading below it.

The tabs i had loaded were all very important to me, and i would like to find a way to restore them if possible, however i have been unable to find anything on the other help pages that describes of fixes my problem.

Please help if you are able, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I apologize for not including an image of the buggy window, it didnt occur to me to take a screenshot before i closed it.
