my firefox 48.0.2 version on my mac mini keeps repeating crash reporter and will not open i have tried start in safe mode but no luck when I tried to download a new version it said my system would not support it

what can I do

I am OSX 10.8.5

I was visiting a website that sells books. I clicked on the brief promotion about a book to learn more. Once I got to that page and read the information, I wanted to return to the page before. But the back arrow which is usually white was greyed out or otherwise not working. Why did that happen? I didn't see a "close page" direction on the page I was on to close up that page, either. Is that a function of the website that I was on, or is there another way to return to the previous page besides using the back arrow located to the far left of search screen? I've gone to HISTORY. Is there another way? Or, do I have them all covered, and it's likely the website's issue? Lastly, my computer cannot upgrade to the very latest Firefox. I'm using 48.0.2. Could that also be an issue? Please advise! Thank you very much! This is the only website browser on my computer now that I can use to get to LinkedIn - so I do thank you for that!

I accidentally closed a pdf that was open in the pdf preview in my browser (Firefox 48.0.2 running Mac OS X 10.8.5). I assume the previewed files are cached or temporarily downloaded. Is it possible to access them and find them again before I close the session? And if so how?

Problem is in the title...I can't get anywhere without the ridiculous pop-up coming up and interfering with my links. It's terrible to have it happen when I'm in the middle of an authentic payment transaction...It happens even on sites that have to have legit and updated TLS such as PayPal, Amazon, Google, Bank of America, Twitter, and yes, even YOU. I have it captured on a screenshot so if there's a way, I can send it to you.

Everything I use is updated. MacBook Pro 17" OS X 10.8.5 Firefox 42.0
