Firefox will no longer display the main window. I get an icon in my taskbar but the window is nowhere to be found. I've tried the tricks of maximizing it and moving it but neither works. I have found that if I locate the xulstore.json file it will work but only for a short time. Next time I start Firefox I get an icon but no window. Very frustrating!

The sulstore.json file contains nothing that suspicious:

``` {"chrome://browser/content/browser.xhtml":{"main-window":{"screenX":"2129","screenY":"777","width":"1280","height":"1040","sizemode":"maximized"},"sidebar-box":{"sidebarcommand":"","style":""},"sidebar-title":{"value":""}}} ```
If I start Firefox and right-click the icon, select maximize it's as if it's maximized covering all my windows but yet invisible. I can see my other windows but I cannot interact with them.
Deleting the xulstore.json file often fixes this but it breaks again shortly. What's the deal???
I run a local web server from my desktop PC. As the person running it, I access it only from my desktop PC, and only my account has a password. (All other accounts must be created by me, and have very limited access.) When I log in, Firefox whinges that it's not running on https, which is not my fault, as I didn't write this server. I cannot change servers. How can I prevent Firefox whinging about my lack of a secure (despite being local only) connection?
There is no "Check for Updates in Settings > Updates, nor is there "Allow Firefox to"
So I cannot change any Update settings. ATM Firefox (now version 116) updates automatically and some tabs (youtube) stop working without any indication why. I would like to disable automatic updates but I can't. (AFAIK)
Why?
I'm using Firefox 116.0.1 on Ubuntu linux. I'm not using a VPN, antivirus, a proxy or any kind of http filtering.
When attempting to load a certain website I get the message: "An error occurred during a connection to www.[website].org. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR"
Google results tells me that firefox throws this error when it can't resolve a safe SSL/TLS connection to the website.
The thing is, I don't care. I'm aware of the risks of browsing on a website with outdated or non-existent certs.
How do I get firefox to drop this security measure?
Hey, I'm running Arch Linux (fwiw, KDE). Some websites seem to have a problem displaying some fonts properly (see attached screenshot). Tried anything I could find online, didn't help. Most sites display normal smooth font. Konqueror and Falkon don't seem to have this problem.
Hi Forum Folke,
This switch from Windows to Linux has been mostly disastrous, with my exported Tbird profile zipfile turning out to be corrupt and not openable, and now I can't import my saved bookmarks file either. I can open it and read the list, I can even open it in Firefox and click on any link in there and it opens in Firefox, but they simply will NOT import.
If I understand the process correctly, go to bookmarks > manage bookmarks > Import and Backup, "Import bookmarks from html..." If I click on this, it opens the file manager, and I navigate to my backup drive and click on the "bookmarks_3_24_23.html" file, then click on "open." This *should* start the import process, and then they should show up in my bookmarks, no? What it does is exactly nothing at all. The window freezes for a moment (unresponsive to any clicks), then does respond to clicks, but there are no imported bookmarks anywhere.
If I enable the bookmarks toolbar, the first button is "Import bookmarks," and if I click on that, it just tells me "No programs that contain bookmarks, history, .... can be found."
I tried dragging and dropping the file into a new tab, and it added "bookmarks_3_24_23..." to the bookmarks toolbar. I can click on it and the list opens in the tab, and I can scroll down and find and open links... but that's obtuse and awkward. I'd much rather have Firefox import the bookmarks and display them normally.
What am I missing here? I've done this before without any issues, doing exactly the same things, but this time it's a no-go. I'm starting to wonder if I've just got a buggy install of Linux ( Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa with the Cinnamon 4.8.6 desktop.)
Just went to get the current version of Firefox, and noticed that it's saying: "Updates disabled by your system administrator." Think this would apply to importing bookmarks as well?? Anyway, the version is "Firefox for Linux Mint mint-001 - 1.0" up at the top of the "about" window, and below that is "111.0 (64-bit)."
Any ideas are very much appreciated!
Not sure if this is something everyone experiences but every time Firefox updates on my computer, the password manager goes back to default settings and starts prompting to save passwords again. I have disabled the darn thing countless times, but it always comes back alive after the browser restarts after an update. Why does this setting does not persists after an update and stays disabled? I have a Firefox account, and sync is on.
I found that when starting Firefox on my school's WiFi, it starts up very slowly. Using `strace`, I found that it was taking it's sweet time making a DNS request to try to resolve my computer's `/etc/hostname`. After searching the Firefox source code with https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/, I found that the only occurrence of `/etc/hostname` was in [SandboxTestingChildTests.h](https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/security/sandbox/common/test/SandboxTestingChildTests.h). So I was wondering if it's possible to disable these tests when Firefox starts up.
I'm becoming less and less likely to customise how firefox works from the default setting, because over time I cannot be certain that these customisations will disappear or become non functional.
How do I prevent firefox from redirecting to HTTPS when it can't find the HTTP website I typed into the address bar?
Background (please read) I run a website for my team at work off my local machine. It's just http, because it's local, and I don't need any fancy encryption schemes. I have no domain for it ... me and my users just type the local IP of my machine. Like this: http://10.111.111.11/myapp/login.php
To work from home, I set up a VPN tunnel thru my workplace firewall so I can hit the webserver on my local machine. If I forget to start the VPN tunnel on my remote machine and then try going to my website, I get an error message in firefox:
   Unable to connect
   An error occurred during a connection to 10.111.111.11.
   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web.
After receiving this message, Firefox changes the address in the address bar from what I typed to the same thing, only with "https" instead of "http". This drives me insane. How do I force Firefox to preserve what I typed in the address bar EXACTLY as I typed it?
How can I stop firefox saving the same file twice at all while downloading? I don't know any scenario, where saving a renamed copy makes any sense. But I know scenarios, where this is deeply confusing.
I found this answer: https://support.mozilla.org/gl/questions/1365576#answer-1477483 , but it doesn't help much.
It only works if the downloaded file is not one of the type configured in "Applications" part. Action other than "save file" or "Allways ask" does ignore "Always ask you where to save files" setting.
So, is there any switch "never save renamed copies of the same file"?
