I don't have a home page button on my browser. How do I add a home page button? Also, when I navigate to a new page my bookmark tool bar at the top disappears. I only have the bookmark tool bar on my home page. I want it to show on every tab I open so I can easily navigate from there rather than having to go back to my home page every time. This problem started when I got a new computer. The browser works fine on my old computer.

I recently installed Firefox version 120.0.1 on Linux Lite 6.6 and logged in to my Mozilla and Firefox accounts, then synced my data. In the past, when I used Ubuntu Desktop 22.04, this method would display all the bookmarks I had saved on other devices that also use Firefox. However, for this case, syncing did not successfully display bookmarks in the Firefox toolbar.

I then tried exporting bookmarks to an HTML file, then importing them into the newly installed Firefox using the Bookmarks Manager, but the window for selecting the HTML file did not open, so I couldn't import bookmarks.html into the new Firefox installed on Linux Lite 6.6. I also tried restoring from the Bookmarks Manager, but the window for selecting the HTML file did not open either.

Is there another way to transfer these bookmarks to the newly installed Firefox on Linux Lite?

If I manage my bookmarks from the Menu>Bookmarks>Manage Bookmarks at the bottom, a separate window pops up where I can attempt to organize my bookmarks.

It seems I have limited functionality in being able to edit these lists and folders. Under "All Bookmarks" I have (3) folders, the Bookmarks Toolbar (which I rarely use anymore), the Bookmarks Menu, and another folder called "Other Bookmarks" which I had added years ago. (Perhaps this folder has been grandfathered in? I don't know that you can add folders at this level anymore)

After moving all the contents of "Other Bookmarks" to the "Bookmarks Menu", I wish to eliminate the "Other Bookmarks" folder. The folder is now empty, but the RMB menu still shows the "delete folder" option grayed out.

I read somewhere that Sync might have something to do with it, but even after signing out of Sync, and trying again, it wouldn't work.

Anything under the "Bookmarks Menu" folder, I have no problem deleting or moving links and folders. (though the GUI could be a little more streamlined) I am just not able to manage anything at the top level. Is there currently a way to do this?

Thank you. Kurt

I often like to bookmark a website in multiple folders (e.g. School>Research and Work>Energy). I used to be able to do so by clicking the bookmark star as many times as I wanted and selecting the folder I wanted to save the page to and the page would show up in each folder I saved it to. Now for some reason, when I try to bookmark something in one folder it removes the bookmark from the other folders I saved it to. This is not good for me, why is it happening and how can I rectify this ridiculous change? Thank you.

Hi, In the version of Firefox that I had on my previous computer, there was a panel to the left, which showed all the different web-sites that I visited frequently, and which I therefore could store in the column on that panel so that they were immediately accessible. I cannot find this feature in the version that I have now, but only a rather complicated way of storing bookmarks that I can then only find my way to after several clicks through some menus. Is there any way I can have it the 'old' way? Kind regards Ole

Yesterday I clicked the download button "Download the latest version of Firefox", and restarted my laptop. After this my bookmarks disappeared and my only method to retrieve them was to restore my system back to an earlier time period. Now, I'm offered that same download but NO THANK YOU until I know I'll still have my data.

Last time I tried backing up my bookmarks, they were saved in a file that was basically a list, a list that can't be imported back to Firefox bookmarks, but just a list. I would like to know if there's a way to actually export and import bookmarks with one click, rather than me having to add 200 pages from the list manually. When I tried importing the file, the list ended up somewhere random and not where bookmarks are

I suddenly and unaccountably lost access to my bookmarks and their contents. Where I used to have two "stars" at the address banner, the left one to bookmark sites, and the right to access bookmark folders and their contents, I now only have one star which bookmarks new sites. I can still see my folders, but cannot access them and cannot tell if they have any contents. I have used Firefox for many years with no problem. I'm stumped and frustrated. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Help! Firefox won't transfer bookmarks to new PC: tried HTML, json, and sync!

From: Dell XPS 13 (5 years old) on Windows 11. Up to date with The most recent version of Firefox which I believe is 120. Always stay up to date.

To: Dell XPS 13 (brand new as of this week), Windows 11 with all updates and Firefox most recent 120 again always up to date.

I have tried reading several articles on here and using different methods from multiple answers and threads and have failed to find a method which exports All of my bookmarks from my old computer to my new computer.

NOTE:

Would highly prefer a method that replaces all bookmarks and data on my new computer exactly with everything from my old computer!

I don't care about my bookmarks on my new computer because I don't really have any but I do care very much about my old ones. At one point when I was syncing them, The bookmarks on my new computer which didn't include The vast majority of them disappeared from both computers for a short time until I restored to a specific different date a few times and luckily have my bookmarks on my old laptop still.

I have tried exporting them as a JSON and as an HTML to put them on my new computer. I've read the HTML method puts them all in one place as opposed to replacing all of them. Obviously I would prefer the JSON method. However I have tried both with no success. I've also tried moving them into the documents folder both times as recommended. I've tried to restore to date on the new computer.

Transferring bookmarks individually would be way too time-consuming as I have a ton of different folders.

Someone please help me find a solution to do something which should be basic which is transfer all my bookmarks for my old computer to my new computer. I'm also logged into my Firefox same account on both computers and have tried syncing with no success as well. No matter how many times I do it. I repeated all of these processes many times with small variations.

Please someone help me get my bookmarks! Thank you for your time and help!

Best regards,

Nate

I exported bookmarks to an HTML file from Firefox on a Win10 computer. Copied the file over to a new Win11 computer and then imported the bookmarks to a new installation of Firefox.

The bookmarks show up in the "library" that displays when I click on "manage bookmarks" but they do not appear in the toolbar at the top of the page. I don't see any way to get them to show up.

Can you tell me what I need to do? Thanks.

BEFORE ANYONE ANSWERS THIS PLEASE STOP AND THINK. I have been using this browser since Netscape. I have been "managing" bookmarks for years and years but I have NEVER found a SOLUTION to managing bookmarks in a SIMPLE, USEFUL way. I have wasted hours and hours on this site looking for answers to the ongoing difficulty that EVERYONE has dealing with the BROWSER WARS imperative that bookmarks can be imported and therefore, perpetually duplicated in an infinite array of browser upgrades and OS installations over the YEARS AND YEARS. For those of us who have managed to ERR on the side of caution and always opt to live with the effects of this rather than risk LOSING the good data nested within, I implore Mozilla to THINK LONG AND HARD on developing a solution to this ONGOING PROBLEM WITH BROWSER BOOKMARKS MANAGEMENT OVERALL. Oh sure, there are hundreds of plugins that ultimately suck up the memory for partial solutions to the PROBLEM that is caused by each new installation of Firefox or other browser in which past bookmarks are imported and ultimately duplicated ad infinitum. I don't need to know all the things that are wrong with Microsoft and how developers or users create the problem, I need a SOLUTION.

Will Mozilla please be the FIRST BROWSER TO SOLVE THE DE-SHITIFICATION OF BOOKMARKS no matter how poorly mismanaged and duplicated they were in past iterations?

The more time I spend on this HELP site looking for answers, the clearer it becomes that this is a problem for DEVELOPERS to solve because none of the USERS can figure out the answers. So, BEFORE you tell me ANYTHING, SHOW ME THE MOZILLA FEATURE THAT SOLVES BOOKMARKS MANAGEMENT THOROUGHLY AND SIMPLY, because, so far, that clearly does not exist.

My iMAC desktop computer crashed yesterday and ultimately I ended up having to go into recovery mode, erase the hard drive to reinstall the OS and then restore the applications and files from TimeMachine using Migration Assistant. All of that worked fine, but Firefox was still hanging up, so I deleted it and downloaded the most recent version. That of course wiped out all of my bookmarks. I used Time Machine to restore the "bookmarksbackup" folder as shown in the image below. That did not help, at least in terms of restoring my bookmarks to Firefox. I noticed that a second profile had been created, so I copied the same list of files to the bookmarksbackup folder under that profile. Still no help. It occurred to me that perhaps there is another place where the current active bookmark file should live, but if that is the case, I can't figure out where that might be. I'm quite stuck and really need access to my bookmarks. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

PS: I've since run a thorough virus scan using Microsoft Defender and checked disk integrity using DiskUtility.
