I had a hard drive fail and needed to do an entire new install. One of the very first things I do is install firefox and sync so I have all my sites tabs and passwords.

I did this and got the Secure connection failed errors instantly thereafter. no reboot nothing fixed it. Bing chrome opera all fail to work. refusing all secure connections. It will load microsoft but I cannot log in. It will load 1000 other sites as long as they are not the SSL pages. No other browser will load either.

This is instantly after signing in to sync.

I was left with no choice but to assume something got corrupted and wipe and redo windows AGAIN on this new drive.

This time I downloaded everything with bing and edge. Then when I was done after two days. I downloaded FF and tested it.

Worked great.

Signed into sync and BAM, all browsers and all websites refuse connections.

I have signed out of sync. I have deleted firefox. I have cleared SSL and DNS and every other setting I can think of or that chat gpt suggested. from cmd line. hard.

No remaining browsers will load. New firefox with no profile and no sync will load.

Whatever sync DID remains totally systemic and persistent and ONLY a total wipe of the drive fixed it last time.

Why will FF simply DO something like this and WTF did it do?

Hi there, my name is Damjan J, and I take care and manage my 80yo mother account registered to [edited] @gmail.com email address.

Namely I noticed that FF latest version fails to remember passwords and logins although this option is ENABLED.

We need this matter fixed ASAP for I can't physically be at the spot all the time entering numerous usernames and passcodes.

Thank you

I was using firefox sync across multiple devices, but at some point in the past few months, i got locked out on one device due to too many wrong tries (i THINK. something went wrong anyway), and now, i am logged on on only 1 computer, and none of my passwords (even the one currently saved in my password manager, 1password) work when trying to log into other devices. using the QR scan from firefox/pair page on my ph doesn't work either. so, now i'm afraid of getting logged out from my main computer and then losing access to years worth of bookmarks & folders & plug-ins etc. unfortunately, when i went to try & add a back up email for my account, it was too late...it kept asking me to log in to do so, and my password isn't recognized anymore (or i maybe inadvertently changed w/ a typo inserted?). i was thinking about just trying to download all my bookmarks, deleting my current account, and creating a new one...but then i need the log in to delete the account. i want to keep the same email for the user name, since it's my main email.

i am at a loss as to how i can get around this impasse.

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request the deactivation of my Firefox account associated with the email address stelios.polkas@ticketmaster.gr.

Regrettably, I have encountered an issue with my account due to the loss of my mobile device, which contained the necessary authentication for 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication). As a result, I am currently unable to access my Firefox account or any associated services.

I kindly request your assistance in disabling the 2FA authentication on my account, allowing me to regain access. Once this has been resolved, I would like to proceed with the deletion of my Firefox account altogether.

Please let me know the necessary steps to complete this process and any additional information you may require from me.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Yesterday I logged out of my friend's account on their device without selecting the "delete all data" by my mistake, and logged into my own which syncs all my bookmarks across accounts. After logging in for about 4 hours, I signed out, read long enough to select the "delete all data" checkmark, and shutdown their computer.

This evening, I have realized my account has hundreds of bookmarks unrelated to my account. After some confirmation I now know this information is from the laptop I synced from, and all this data was synced in some 5 hours.

Is there a way I can backup my sync data to the morning before this happened? And if I deleted my friends data, can they recover their bookmarks/browser info another way? (they wouldn't have synced to my data since I deleted only mine after I logged out).

Sincerely, a panicked firefox user.

Hello,

I am in the process of trying to fully migrate to Firefox from previously using both Firefox and Chrome. I wished to remove the secondary email on my primary Firefox account so that I could create a new, separate account to use with a second Firefox installation, because I would prefer to keep all profiles separate as well as sync them across different devices.

After removing the secondary email from my account however, I am unable to use it to create a new account. I keep getting the message that I simply need to "log in", and when I try the reset password option it tells me I must use my primary email to reset my account, indicating that my emails are still linked in the system in spite of my supposed deletion of one.

I would sincerely appreciate if anyone could help me with this issue.

Thank you very much for your help, and for your continued fight for privacy online.

New to Firefox...downloaded on Iphone, and started moving articles from chrome readling list to firefox. BUT, it's not syncing on my ipad or my desktop (pc). I scanned the QR code with my phone, but it says I need to do it through the app (which I am).

I'm switching because chrome keeps crashing. The biggest thing I use it for is when I see an article I want to read later, I can add on my phone, and it shows up on my laptop, pc, and Ipad. I'm sure firefox does the same?

PS: I'm very much not a computer person, so please dumb down for me :)

First of all, let me tell you I LOVE FIREFOX! IS THE best ever browser.

I am having problems with a specific login SHOPIFY, after months of working well and setting up my store, around 2 weeks ago, it started going in circles, returning me to the login page every time I wanted to edit something, I deleted the cache, history, passwords, everything I can think of, and still the issue persisted. I contacted yesterday Shopify, and since I have no problems accessing and doing whatever I want from Chrome or my tablet, they said it's a browser issue (which I hate to agree with). Months ago this happened with another site I have a subscription with Wordtune, but since I don't use it that much I just open Chrome whenever I needed to log in (after doing the same thing of cache/history/passwords etc. and still wouldn't recognize me and keep me in). I hate to think that I will need to migrate to other browsers as more sites are having issues with Firefox :( nooooo! What else can I do to just work as usual? I'm attaching a screen video (can't doesn't accept mp4, attaching images) , it's simple, I login, enter, when I try to do something I am sent back to login again and again. Can't do anything there. Is there anything I can do besides cache/history/passwords? Please help I want to keep using Firefox. Thank you! Diana

I work with many many systems, multiple accounts, so I add setup syncing on new browser fairly often.

The problem is that whenever I add a new one, it resets the settings on all of the synced browsers. It's always the same settings that get reset, and they're not reset to any value I would've chosen, therefore I know there's not a lingering browser with different settings that's screwing up the rest.

However, to make sure: I eliminated everything from my account, set up a few browsers, and manually copied their profiles over. Restarted them a few times. Double, triple-checked that their settings are identical.

Next I installed a new browser and before setting sync on it, I changed its settings to match the other's.

I added it to sync, and again all browsers reverted their settings including the newly configured pre-configured browser. It's infuriating.

Among the usual changes are re-enabling/checking of:

  • Enable picture-in-picture video controls
  • Recommend extensions as you browse
  • Recommend features as you browse
  • Show search suggestions in address bar results
  • Ask to save logins and password for websites

These are other settings I'm not completely sure if they're modified or not, but only because they're locked down from modification through policy management systems such as Profile Manager (Apple devices) or Active Directory (Windows, Windows Server):

  • Settings under Firefox Home Content
  • Homepage URL
  • New tabs setting
  • New requests for Notification, Location and all other permissions and update checking are disabled too.
  • Block pop-up windows — Sidenote: it's 2023, this is more of a nuisance than helpful. Sites don't spam popups anymore, not reputable ones at least.

One last thing I've noticed, is that when these things are reset, presumably because they "synced down" from some master profile responsible for the preferences you didn't set. So if that was the case, in theory you should be able to change them back and "sync them up" back to that profile, right? But when you correct one of these change, that correction isn't replicated to other browsers in the group yet other settings like themes, extensions reliably do. It seems purposeful.

I saw in about:config entries with "prefs" and "sync" on them, but I haven't found any documentation about them. Are any of these useful to keep the browser from resetting itself?

I know the answer to this is probably going to be along the lines of this is not possible, but I thought I'd ask anyway since none of the information is entirely clear. Or answers my exact question.

I have one desktop install of firefox and I have two android ones. I have all three synced to one firefox account, so it's easy to grab links I saved while wiki diving on something. While this works perfectly for the desktop side of things, the mobile side is where the issue arises.

Currently all my bookmarks from both mobile firefox accounts are merged into one long set, regardless of device. While the desktop ones have their own folder. Is there a way to keep the bookmarks from each device in their own separate folder? Like say instead of having one big mobile bookmarks folder, having one named DeviceX, and the other DeviceY?

It's still semi functional on desktop where I have more screen real estate and have to deliberately go to the mobile bookmarks folder, but on the phones it can be confusing when a set of bookmarks from device 1 mixes randomly into those of device 2. As it can become a lot harder to keep track of things.

Now I know one can turn off syncing of bookmarks. This is not what I'm looking for as I do still want to be able to share them between all three devices. Just have them more organised.

I also know one can make different accounts for say work or personal, but again I want them all to sync, just not mix them into one list.

So in short is there a way to be able to have two android devices into a threeway sync and keep the bookmarks separate? Or is my only option the round abound way of making subfolders and hope I remember to save in those?

Thanks either way.
