I have been using online banking for years and using Firefox to access my accounts. Suddenly, I now get an error message (see attached) that demands I use another browser (e.g., Chrome, etc.). I want to continue with Firefox. The website support people tell me there is a Firefox update needed, but the latest Firefox is installed. I did the usual and deleted the cache and the site data. No effect.

Can you help?

I need some things to look at. Debian 11.4 Bullseye 16 CPU 72GB I just got the Mate desktop working. Thought I'd find a cool wallpaper. Site said it needed to load an extension. I tried to escape but now my firefox fails to load even in troubleshoot mode. It builds the window frame I can almost touch the menu and gone.

Checked .mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/ and it's empty checked .mozilla/extensions/ and it's emtpy Got an install time InstallTime20220718130424

as I click on Firefox Icon in menu the screen pops alert that says: "Firefox closed unexpectedly while starting....try to resolve the problem in troubleshooting in SafeMode."

tailing syslog: tail -f /var/log/syslog gives this clue: oom-kill:constraint=CONTRAINT_NONE, task=firefox-esr total-vm:672432kb Kernel Out Of Memory killed process pgtables:840kb oom-score_addj:0

I can add more detail if I know where to look. OOM with 72GB ?

Evening, all.

It's very rare I ask for help on ANY fora, if I'm honest. I can almost always sort out my own issues, especially with browsers. However, this one has stumped me.

I've noticed that, on any website where user interaction requires use of a microphone, the Linux build of Firefox only ever offers "source_default_name" for choice of microphone. Well, OK; I can see this being fine for the vast majority of folks who use a laptop; the built-in microphone WILL be the "default" microphone, no questions.

My question is this; what do those of us running desktop PCs do about microphone selection, hmm? A desktop PC doesn't HAVE a "built-in, default microphone", does it? By their very nature, any microphone you're going to use with a desktop is going to be an externally plugged-in device. I have three of these; a USB microphone.....a wireless headset, and the twin stereo mikes on a Logitech c920 webcam.

Do I get anything resembling a drop-down list to choose what I want to use? Uh-uh. Firefox - apparently! - doesn't "see" any of them. Not individually. All I ever see is "source_default_name".....

Grrrr...!!

C'mon, guys! Frankly, this is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Linux, to the best of my knowledge - unlike Windoze - doesn't make 'global' device settings, which every application then uses. It's always been far more fine-grained than that, allowing individual device use on a per-app basis. But that only works if the 'app' in question allows those choices to be made.

Any Chromium-based "clone" - and I use several of these, as I package portable versions for the Puppy Linux community - will give a full drop-down list of every available device it can find. Why can't the Linux builds of Firefox do the same?

I shall be interested to see what, if any, replies I get to this question. It's been bugging me for years...!

Mike.

Hi all, I'm having a lot of problems with Firefox crashing pretty often. Sometimes once or twice a day.

I most often see crashes in the middle of a Webex video conference for work. But Firefox sometimes goes down in other situations that I see no pattern in.

This is Ubuntu 20.04, Firefox 102.0. Unfortunately, it's a complex environment to debug.

First, when firefox goes down, it rarely leaves a crash report behind. So I'm not getting any direct evidence as to what is happening. Second, I run with uBlock active and it is very difficult to function in the browser without long enough for the crash to happen. Third, I typically have several hundred tabs open. I have a lot of memory (64G) in my machine, and the machine doesn't act like it's swapping, so I don't think I'm running out of memory.

Any help getting to the bottom of what's going on is welcome.

Hi!

In the past few week I have started having problem playing certain YouTube videos (I see no real pattern except certain channels seem to be more likely to fail than others) in a normal browser window, the video will stop at the spinning circle. It works if I try in an incognito window (with all the same extensions active) or another browser. I have noticed the problem on a Linux Mint laptop as well as on a macbook. On the Linux laptop I tried replacing the built in Firefox with the one from the the Mozilla homepage with no improvement. If I clear history in Firefox it seems to work once or twice and then the problem reappears. I also tried disabling hardware acceleration but no dice. There does not seem to be any difference whether I am logged in to my YouTube account or not. I have even tried reinstalling the computer but the problem does not disappear.

I am currently using Firefox 91.12.0esr (64bit) [tried to copy and paste the version, but "About Mozilla Firefox" prohibits copy, so I had to split the screen to make sure I typed it in correctly]

Many websites that have been successfully used for decades with Firefox in Linux are no longer supporting Firefox. Their updates seem to vary in effect. Most I use will not allow Firefox to enter the password. Some websites detect your browser and display the message that Firefox is not supported and some functions will not work. Other posts describe the functions that do not work for them. This is seemingly not unique as I was playing Wizard101 for four years with Wine under Linux and now I am unable to log into their game. I can log into their website, so my account is still active, but I do not have Windows or Mac operating systems to use even if I could figure out how to use a virtual machine.

The only solution I have is to use the Web 3.38.2 browser / WebKitGTK 2.36.4, but most other browsers should function properly.

Although I have been using Firefox as my favorite browser for more than two decades, it seems that Firefox is no longer supported. Even the https://www.247freepoker.com/ game freezes after a few rounds.

There was a post that claimed a fix, but did not explain how to turn it on. I already checked my firewall settings and internet connectivity settings even though it did not seem to be the cause of the problem.

Every day when I go to work with my laptop which has Fedora 36 installed, I open up Firefox in order to fill the "IT Checklist" where I need to visit a couple of local intranet websites in order to fill upbound threshold and inbound threshold.

I see weird Firefox behavior when it comes to, "Firefox remembering past logins". Let's say, I went to a website that has a URL like 20.200.30.200, and a password 1234.

Every time I try to log in to this website, Firefox asks if I want to update my password !! Something which I don't understand. Neither I am changing the password, nor I have written a different password to update with.

Every time Firefox try to update the password of this website with a random long string of character, which is out of my mind. I have to be careful each time and press "Don't Update" option.

On a normal website (let's say Facebook.com) there is no such problem. But when it comes to a local website, Firefox behaves very differently.

There is another website called 20.0.20.1. Its username is root and the password is 4321. But when I try to login in, only the password section is auto-filled, the username section needs to manually be written. Even though about:logins see both domains saving their respective username and password, when it comes to serving users, it sucks misbehave a lot.

Clearly, there is a fundamental problem in Firefox when it comes to handling how logins are saved and served to the user.

I really hope that Firefox 109 fixes this issue and handles the local website properly.

When I click a link on page, or an app tries to open a tab (eg to print an ebay invoice), it opens and immediately closes the first time, but stays open the second time. It's really annoying.

In troubleshoot mode, it doesn't happen.

I am using FF109.0 and Linux Mint - 001-1.0 fresh install on new HD.

I had the same problem last year after I upgraded FF but did fix it eventually (can't remember how) Thanks
