My Subject pretty well says it. I'm trying to transfer by syncing my desktop Firefox with the Firefox 124 on a newly installed Kubuntu on a new laptop. I have all these functions synced ON. The recent history but not the long-term history, passwords (thank heavens), and all bookmarks got transferred, but not the open tabs/pages. I've done the desktop sync followed by the laptop sync a few times, still without the tabs' transferring. How do i get those transferred?

The title describes the problem I'm facing. I don't really use other sites that have videos other than Youtube. But I notice that the videos freeze quite often and audio just continues to play. The videos then unfreeze and skip multiple frames. I've noticed clearing browser cache seems to help but it doesn't help for longer than a 2 min video at best. At worst, it doesn't affect it at all.

I'm using Manjaro Linux and I place Firefox in a particular position on the screen. In the previous version, just before 122.0, Firefox would "remember" the last position on the screen. Now when it starts up, the window is in the middle of the screen and not to the top left as when it was shut down. Anyone else notice this?

I'm having the exact same problem as what was originally mentioned in this post from 4 years ago.

The "chosen solution" was to exit firefox through the hamburger menu, which I find to be absolutely ridiculous. You mean to tell me that even though I close EVERY OTHER APPLICATION either using the "X" close button or a custom keybinding that I've set for my own personal convenience, firefox requires me to exit through a menu every time in order to make it behave the way I've told it to? No. Absolutely not. If I tell firefox that I don't want it to save my last session, that means I DON'T WANT IT TO SAVE MY LAST SESSION. If I've deselected the "open previous windows and tabs" option in the settings, then under no circumstances should it be trying to open my previous windows and tabs.

I've tried the suggestion to change the value of browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes from 1 to 0. The problem persists, I assume because firefox considers being closed using the close button to be a "crash", which is interesting.

I the other suggestion further down in the thread was to set browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash from true to false, which will prevent firefox from recovering a session from a crash. This is hardly an appropriate solution. I want firefox to resume my last session if there is a legitimate (key word LEGITIMATE) crash, because my session was closed against my will due to something that went wrong. Being able to recover my last session in such a situation is nice. I do not, however, want firefox to resume my last session when I explicitly closed the last session myself, which would be the difference between a crash recovery and restoring a previous session. If no crash occurred, I don't need a crash recovery, and aside from a crash, I don't want my previous session to be restored.

Are there any solutions to this at all? Because this is one of the biggest reasons why I stopped using firefox. I want to come back to firefox because everything else that's worth using is either dog shit, or Chromium-based (i.e. also dog shit). However, I find this broken feature to be somewhat of a security issue. If a bad actor somehow gains access to my system, I don't want him to be able to open firefox and have access to my last browser session because I closed firefox using a keyboard shortcut instead of closing it through a goddamned menu.

Dear friends at mozilla.org,

Thank you for your excellent browser, which I've used almost from its first versions.

I'd like to compile its source code, which I've downloaded from your website, into a working browser. I've spent several days, and get only as far as not-terribly-helpful error messages, that indicate strongly that I'm using versions of tools and libraries that the source code doesn't like.

I'm using

 linux kernel 6.1.0-13-686-pae (from Debian)
 gcc 13.2.0-9
 perl 5.36.0
 python 3.11.7

It's sufficiently important for me to compile firefox that I'd install a fresh linux system for this purpose. Could you possibly recommend to me what linux distribution I could install, and versions of compilation tools, header files, libraries, etc. that are known to work for compiling firefox? I'd be glad to report back to you my results, to help others who'd like to compile firefox.

In case you're wondering, I'm perfectly competent in installing software, including compiling anything. I'm an M.I.T. graduate, and have been a professional computer programmer for most of the half-century of my working life.

Thank you kindly for any response that you have time to send to me.

Very truly yours,

Lyman Opie [email address]

The integrated webcam (IMC Networks Integrated Camera, according to lsusb) on my linux laptop does not work in firefox (v124). It works in desktop apps (eg webcamoid), and chromium. I've checked the permissions (about:preferences#privacy), and that is not the problem. about:support does not list the device in the input at all. I've tried using LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/libv4l1compat.so, but that has not helped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I accidentally used wrong disk when downloading a big file. So my primary disk, where I'm running OS became 100% full. Then I removed this big file, checked that disk is not full anymore, and tried to download again, this time choosing the right disk, but now the Firefox internal file browser, where we open files, and select folder to download is broken, pointing wrong location when selecting disk/folders. I tried restarting OS, reinstalling firefox, but it's internal file browser is still broken. In Chrome it's ok, in system file explorer is ok, problem occur only with Firefox. I'm using Pop!_OS 22.04.

Is there a way I can reset this internal file browser to work properly again?

I am working on a website that uses Unicode extensively. Some glyphs do not show correctly. In particular U+2A75, which is double equals. I am using Ubuntu, and I have installed Unifont. In the image, I have opened Firefox on the right and Chromium on the left, the URL is https://www.compart.com/en/unicode/U+2A75 Chromium is displaying the page correctly, Firefox is not. However, in both cases, the character is correctly displayed in the text in the Tab header after the favicon. browser.display.use_document_fonts is set to 1 I have read the Support page on editing fonts. Inspecting the element as suggested in the 'Editing Fonts' page, (see 2nd image uploaded), I see - in the source pane on the left, the character is correctly displayed (as in the tab text) - the Font being used to display the character in the rendered HTML is 'Source Sans Pro', which probably does not have the glyph for U+2A75. - the Font supplied by the website (presumably it does have the glyph) is list as a font, but I can't find a way to have it display the element.

I have tried to change the font family for the selected element in the Rules pane, but that does not work.

I have tried a variety of other changes in about:config but nothing seems to work.

I have two thoughts - the Font family for some Unicode ranges may be set for security reasons, and so U+2A75 is forced to some other Font - the fallback mechanism is not working to select a font when the glyph is not in the first family.

OS: Ubuntu 23.10 Firefox version: 119.0 Mozilla Firefox Snap for Ubuntu

I have DNS over HTTPS enabled and set to Default Protection in Firefox.

According to the following article (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/dns-over-https?as=u&utm_source=inproduct#w_why-would-a-network-tell-firefox-not-to-use-secure-dns) DNS over HTTPS should automatically switch to "Not Active" when connected to a VPN.

I am using the NordVPN CLI for linux and have found that when I connect to the VPN, Firefox DNS over HTTPS stays active and does not switch to "Not Active" like it is supposed to.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Over the past few weeks I've been unable to watch live videos on Firefox on Ubuntu 22.04. I thought it was just an issue with Twitch but I realized the problem also persists on live videos on Youtube and did some troubleshooting which didn't solve the issue. The only solution I was able to find for Ubuntu said to install ffmpeg, which I already had, but I made sure it was upgraded, refreshed Firefox, and still have the issue. Currently I'm on Firefox 121.0 but I've had this issue since before I updated it. I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows and am not having this issue when I boot Windows on the same computer and Firefox profile.

When composing emails in Gmail holding down a (any) key does not activate key repeating.

Also, the there are irregularities when using discover.com in Ver. 124. When editing my customer profile, keystrokes are not recognized. Nothing happens when typing. I also had difficulty signing-in; this may be coincidental.

Things tried: (1) A different keyboard. Same results. (2) Firefox version 122. The key repeat function worked in Gmail. I could edit my profile at discover.com. (3) Uninstalled and reinstalled ver. 124. All problems persisted. (4) Ran Ver. 124 in troubleshooting mode. All problems persisted. (5) Launched newly downloaded versions of both 122 and 124 (from command line) and ran them simultaneously. The problems persisted in 124 (troubleshooting mode), but 122 worked well. I used two different keyboards with no difference noticed. (6) Downloaded and ran Chromium. All worked well.

The new selection "Copy without site tracking" may eliminate certain codes, but does not remove all invasive data (my term). Consider this common URL occurrence:

link text

The new filter does absolutely nothing to this and when I pass this kind of URL on to others, I do not want to include all that crapola. Currently I have to manually edit the link, which can really get tiresome when passing on a lot of links.

Is there a way to modify anything in Firefox to accommodate this?

I wanted to make a lengthy post on a website today, but I accidentally hit CTRL + R twice which bypassed the "This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave — information you’ve entered may not be saved." safety net. Is there a way to deliberately disable any and all refresh shortcuts and buttons when a safety net shows up, so my buttery fingers don't ruin my day to it's absolute maximum?

I want safety nets to be deliberately annoying.
