Apologies if this is a bit limited, during typing it I ran into the issue I'm about to describe which navigated me away from this page and lost all the progress of my post as I was wrapping up :')

The issue I'm having right now is Firefox forcibly opening pages it thinks are a new site in new tabs, despite the site itself not requesting new tabs or windows. Specifically this is happening with sites between different "iterations" of itself while still being the same and having fully integrated layouts and UI.

For example: Most pages on the site have an update "https://www1" prefix, but some pages have the old "https://" only. Firefox keeps opening new tabs when navigating between these different pages despite them being the same website. I know the pages themselves are not sending new tab requests because this doesn't happen in Chrome.

So far, my "solution" has been to go through about:config to adjust the browser.link.open_newwindow value to 1 instead of 3, which forces all links to stay within the same window. This unfortunately causes a whole host of other issues though.

Because its an override, it also means any links opened from an external program (like discord) forcibly open in the last active tab, navigating away from the page. This is obnoxious and annoying in and of itself because it means to save the tabs I already have open I need to manually open a new tab in FF before clicking any link, which I never remember to do. (Goodbye post progress (': )

If that weren't bad enough, when trying to hit the back button to get to the previous page FF ends up in some sort of weird redirection loop "between" pages, where the last page will disappear but FF won't navigate to the link it was trying to open either, so its just a blank infinitely loading page with the URL of the link that was opened. The only way to stop this from happening is to navigate back 2 pages, losing the current page, before it starts the redirect loop. If the loop starts before this happens, the tab locks up and needs to be hard-refreshed with f5 or completely closed due to the weird lag it causes.

Literally all I want Firefox to do here is not assume a new tab needs to be opened just because the URL "seems" different to it. Is there ANY way to get this behavior?

I am unable to livestream video services from a monastery in the UK. I have clicked into the little shield at the left end of the web address bar in order to turn off the enhanced protection, but this does not have any effect, even though the website shows up as having had the protection disabled. I don't know whether I need to do anything in Firefox settings.

I was advised to use Google Chrome, and that browser does let me enter, but I prefer to stay with Firefox for all my browsing. I am an elderly person, and have to work harder than my children and grandchildren to keep up-to-date. If you could help me with some very clear instructions with the minumum of technical jargon I would be most grateful. I submit below a screenshot of what I see on the site despite the protection having been switched off on the little shield.

You used to be able to show or hide the downloads list when you started a download. I had my browser set to not show the recent list. Either an update or something else changed that. Every time I click to save a download now, it shows a list of the last 5 downloads that cover a quarter of my screen. I have to click it off every time. Most annoying. I looked through all the settings menus and could not find the option. Where did it go please?

Thanks, Johnny

Running Linux Mint Mate 19.2 on two computers. Starting about 2 weeks ago, when trying to sign into providencejournal.com (with a paid subscription) using Firefox 97.0.1, just one of the computers displays an error message, see attached. We have used that site for years without issues, and the other computer still signs in correctly. On the problem computer I have just installed the Opera browser, for test purposes, and with Opera the sign-in succeeds. In F/F, I have tried disabling extensions, allowing all trackers and cookies, and reinstalling Javascript, all to no avail. preference is to use F/F, can anyone offer a solution?

Hello Mozilla Support!

I just installed Firefox 98.0 this morning. I was very surprised to discover that I can no longer view an attachment in Firefox or open an attachment without also downloading it.

If you can, please ask the developers to reinstate the Download Attachment options to "Open with Firefox" and "Open with [select the program]" without automatically downloading every attachment.

Thank you!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I am sorry to have to go to such lengths to figure out how I can fix this error. Today I opened up Firefox to watch some simple youtube videos, then I come to realization that all my bookmarks I have are gone. I quickly check up on them to find out that they are still there, which was a relief for me. I searched through multiple different problems and solutions, but none of them worked for me I can try to send you an image of what has now become of my bookmark toolbar. I tried restoring the defaults, as well as restarting my PC, or checking if I have the toolbar visible. I sincerely hope you can help me fix my problem.

Yours sincerely, Oliver Wiechert

I just got a new computer, and Firefox did work at first, but then something happened, I don't know what, and then Firefox just stopped working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, did Refresh, tried to start it up in Troubleshoot mode, and nothing works. It'll open, and it'll show bookmarks, but if I try to go to a website, it just sits there and doesn't do anything. Doesn't act like it loads no matter how long I let it sit. I've tried to do about:config to maybe turn off ipv6 or http3, i type in about:config and it doesn't load. I tried to go to settings or to view passwords and it just puts in about:login...... in the address bar and just sits there. I'm not sure what's going on and any advice would be welcome. I've uninstalled all AV and am currently just using windows defender firewall, which I have also disabled as well and it didn't make a difference. Any advice or tips or fixes would be more than welcome.

Firefox also doesn't shut down when I close it. I have to close it in task manager in order to start it up again

In China (Mainland) the Firefox Now showing both Associate Press and Russian sputnik concerning Ukraine as "Deceptive Site" (e.g. https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-putin-europe-nato-49abe49e9b35833a385fe10db802dc5a). So I have 2 questions.

1 Who is responsible for the collection of Deceptive Site in China (for those who don't know, Chinese Firefox is run and supported by "Beijing Zhimou firefox", not mozilla) 2, and more importently. what information would it need to be sent to use the "Deceptive Site" function (or more sepsifictly, is firefox sending what sites I visit to its partner? and if yes what, and who)

Hello, I'm not sure if I chose the right topic above.

I'm trying to visit a site which is still using http. But Firefox is automatically redirecting to https, where of course it cannot resolve the site.

In settings, I have it set for "Don’t enable HTTPS-Only Mode". But still, Ff is redirecting.

I don't know. Maybe I should set for https only, and then enter an exception??

I have searched for a solution, but for every solution I find, when I look up how to do it, it says, before you try this, try that first. After about 5 rounds of that, I got too confused and gave up.

Oh, I also cleared the cache, but no help.

I've enabled all the extra info below. But let me know if you need any other specific info. Do you need the address of the website?

Thank you very much.

I just switched to Windows 11 and Firefox have a strange behaviour. Maybe also just firefox updates the behaviour like removing back action when clicking backspace some time ago. When a download of a PDF starts it is configured that it will ask me what to do. So in general I use open with Adobe PDF Viewer. This also works. But the file is anyway in my Download-Folder. I was used that it will be saved in the temp folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and then also deleted after a while. If I want a file saved for a longer time I save it explicitly to a location I want to have it.

Any idea what is wrong in the Windows 11 or Firefox (currently 98.0.1)

Thanks a lot!
