Hello Everyone,
I am not sure what has happened but I had tons of passwords saved in my Mozilla browser. I have been using this since 2019 or 2020 and saved all of my passwords there. What happened is I was using my laptop and wasn't aware that the charger is not plugged in. While working my device turned off because of no battery. I connected the charger and restarted my device like normal. After I opened my browser(Mozilla Firefox) and ctrl+shift+t to open all the recently closed tabs, I was amazed to see that it restored many old sites like 1.5 month old websites instead of the one's which I was using. However, the recently closed one's were showing in the history. I opened the tabs from history that I needed and started using it normal. I have using Mozilla Firefox for good 2 years I never felt the need to remember any of my passwords. Everytime I have to create an account on any of the sites I just create a password once, at the time of sign up only and then click on SAVE PASSWORD so I don't have to remember it. I am guessing this is the normal practice that everyone does or may be a cast majority. I was doing my routine work, I tried to login to my account using the same way like you put in your email in the email section and then click on password section and select the user/email you want to use a password for and sign in. BUT TODAY WHEN I FOLLOWED THE SAME PROCEDURE, IT DOESN'T SHOW ME ANY SAVED PASSWORD WHICH WAS QUITE SURPRISING TO ME. I OPENED THE PASSWORD MENU FROM THE TOP RIGHT AND I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THERE WE ZERO, LITERALLY ZERO SAVED PASSWORDS. I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS BECAUSE THOSE WERE SO MANY PASSWORDS LIKE SERIOUSLY SO MANY.
THANK YOU, AMIR

I have three devices, a desk top, a laptop and an iPad. The desktop is running a very outdated version of Firefox which means it is not compatable just to update it. The forum tried to help me with this a while back, but it was deemed not to be possible, and the best way would have been to do a fresh new install, but there was noway to save log-ins/passwords bookmarks. My devices all have the Firefox sync and that is so far working well. My question is, if I dragged my PC's Firefox into the present by performing a fresh new install, would my synced items install ok....after invoking the Sync feature on the new install. Logic tells me this should be so, as it worked ok with the new iPad, but I know from experience that logic doesn't always come into play. (Windows7) Many thanks

Very similar to posts in previous years that are archived and largely unanswered or not up-to-date.
I opened up my a Firefox session to find out I was logged out of sync and when I logged back in all my passwords where erased.
This has been stable for the last 10 months and Firefox has provided a reliable password archive with nice syncing features. However, this is a deal breaker, since I cannot loose the login credentials randomly.
No updates. No conscious logging out. No disregarding warnings etc.
Anyway to revert or retrieve?

For some reason my passwords went missing locally and when I went to sync them my account would not connect and the saved password was missing. So I went through the password reset process to sign into my sync account and when I resigned into it to sync, there was no passwords on the account.
Is there any backup performed by mozilla or any other way to get like a backup of the online account passwords somehow. My local logins.json files are corrupt so I cant use them.
This is extremely disappointing if they cant be retrieved.

Howdy, I just need to sync Firefox on my iMac and on my MacBook Pro. But this is surprisingly difficult to do. [[this page|https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-sync-my-computer]] says to "click the 'Sign In' button next to 'Sync and save data'". It shows a handy little screenshot of a Sign In button, but I cannot see said button or the Sync and save data button even though I'm signed in to Firefox. This page gives me a handy QR code to sync Firefox on my mobile device, but I want to sync Firefox on my laptop. This page [[about:preferences#searchResults]] ] says "Sorry! There are no results in Settings for 'sync'". (Why ever not?)
It seems it should be very easy to sync Firefox between two computers; indeed it should be blindingly obvious, but it's not. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi everybody this will be a long question, and I would be really grateful for any kind of help anyone could give me, this is my case:
I use `firefox-sync` to manage all my logins information and firefox-sync's password is the unique password I save manually.
Currently I has problems with my O.S and I decided reinstall it. But also I have 2FA enable for mostly of my accounts, and firefox-sync is not the exception, and firefox-sync's 2FA is based on my gmail, so when I tried get logged on firefox-sync, firefox asks me for my verification code, but my verification code is in my gmail, and my gmail's password is in firefox-sync.
So I lost access to all my accounts, I lose my gmail, github, gitlab, stackoverflow, discord, etc etc... :'(
From the gmail side, I tried all that gmail let me try but unsuccessfully.
So, the only possibility that I see, is recover the information of the formatted partition and rebuild the previous state of Firefox. I mean:
Reading about firefox loggins, and taking a look to firefox's workdir (`$HOME/.mozilla`), I see firefox saves login's info in a json file located in `$HOME/.mozilla/$profile$/logins.json`.
So the basic idea is with a data recovery tool, try recover `.mozilla`s directory and replace it over the current environment so when I start firefox can get access to my login's info. But I'm not sure how much it is possible to recover the whole directory, and if is not posible, my question is:
What files next to `logins.json` should be my recovery targets to replace inside the `.mozilla` folder in order to reconstruct my accounts login information?

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help with this. I recently signed into a shared computer with my personal Firefox account, and it automatically imported all my history, my browser extensions, and bookmarks, including personal/secure information that I wouldn't want on a shared computer. I tried signing out and deleting the sites and login information, even going so far as to completely delete all of my browsing history and cookies and signing in with another account, but all the supposedly deleted history and logins and extensions were then transferred to this second account. I have deleted all my data, even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, and all the data from my personal account keeps haunting me as suggestions when I type in the task bar or suggested usernames when I log in to websites. How can I actually delete this information so it's not on a shared computer? Thank you!

A recently added computer's Firefox is not available on the "Send Tab To Device" list.
Both computers are logged into my Firefox account and Firefox is syncing. The new computer populated with my extensions and other synced data. The new computer shows the old computer in it's Send Tab list, but the old computer does not have the new computer's Firefox name in the Send Tab list.
On both computers, I can go to the menu / Manage Account and see the list "Connected Services - Everything you are using and signed into." On both computers, I can see the other computer's Firefox name in the list, and it reports "synced a few seconds ago".
But when I use the context menu and try to send a tab under "Send Tab To Device" the new computer is not on the list.
This article does not discuss this situation. For the case of "I don’t see my device listed" it just says "Sign In", but that has already been completed and is working on both systems.

Labelled as "Firefox Sync" as it may be involved, as the only preserved data is seemingly what comes through firefox sync.
Hi all, My C drive filled itself with 50GB of Crusader Kings 3 crash logs.
While the drive was (unknowingly) full, I opened firefox. Firefox was...wonky...and instantly I could tell something was wrong, as my speeddial homepage was missing all the sites. My best guess is that, in the worst timing ever, firefox sync chose this time to sync. I immediately cleared space on the drive, and restarted firefox. No extension data recovered. I restarted the PC. No extension data recovered.
I began following Firefox troubleshooting steps, such as checking about:profile. Other profiles are present, but each lacks any extensions or extension data. I widened my search with Everything, to search everywhere for any waylaid installs or profiles that may hold backups. Specifically, prefs.js, extensions.json, firefox.exe (incase I was somehow running a non-default install location) or any sign of other installations. I did find some hits, but none had extensions installed.
Perhaps useful, my FF profile weave folder is populated with many CORRUPT files, and the 'failed' folder lists addons, bookmarks, clients, extension-storage and prefs from it's most recent sync. Perhaps this is the result of trying to write to a full disk?
This is mostly an exercise of curiosity now, as the developer of Group Speed Dial (Juraj Mäsiar) helped me recover from their own backup system seperate from the Mozilla Preferences. I have an easy way to see if any backup file has the correct data, as I have many settings that are instantly visible.
Useful info: Antivirus - None added (Windows Defender) FF Version - 111.0.1 (64-bit) Profile - default-release
(Moz Helpers, the remainder of this post is irrelevant, and purely to help future travellers) If a weary traveller comes across this post in the future, I gift you my knowledge from the year 2023 of Group Speed Dial. At this time, the way you access the backups on your system is to navigate to the Group Speed Dial homepage. If you are on the default homepage, you should find the option to set it as New Tab or Homepage in Firefox settings. Next, as you face the oblivion of an empty dialler page, click the Burger Menu (top-right for me) for the extension. NOT the firefox burger menu, the one as if you were clicking a menu in a website. For me, the Fourth option is History/Backups. This is a new-ish feature from the developer, so don't be surprised if it move around...be they seem very proud of it, so I imagine it lurks somewhere!
If you just want to recover your extension list, at this time you can find a complete list of everything by examining extensions.js, extension-settings.js and extension-preferences.js. There is a tool online for helping parse into a human readable table, but I would not rely on it, and instead look into a generic JSON formatter to make the data human readable. The site is jeffersonscher.com, which has a extension file reader here https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/extensionsjson.html

Greetings, I have an iMac running OS Monterey 12.2.1. I use Firefox as my browser and it is 'up to date'.
My homepage is the Sydney Morning Herald, and I am a subscriber of many years. When I open the browser is shows the Home Page of the SMH, and shows my name as being 'logged on'. BUT, when I click on any story within that page to read in depth, it goes to that story, but requires me to 'log in' the password a second time.
When contacting Apple Support, they requested I try both Safari and Chrome to see if the same problem exists there. And, it doesn't. I can log on to the SMH site and then click on any story and read it without needing to log in a second time.
I am 84 years of age and find this rather frustrating... particularly as I do not have the cyber skills of a younger person. I am used to Firefox and prefer it as my chosen browser.
I hope you can advise me how to rectify this vexing problem.
Thanks, Frank Arnold I
