This is a very bizarre problem. Basically I can't install any Firefox addon neither on my desktop OR may laptop. I noticed this issue just couple of days ago. When I try to install any addon normally, from a link, it tells me that the addon can't be installed because the file is corrupt. Tried several addons, all same problem. On my desktop AND on my laptop. On my desktop I'm running ver. 103, but on my laptop I still had ver. 102.1, so there is no Firefox update issue. When I try to install addon from xpi file, it tells me that I have no permission to open that file and that's it. I tried to take ownership of that file but it didn't solve the issue I tried to disable my AV program, but it didn't do anything. On my laptop, I tried to refresh FF, no help. I tried to start FF in safe mode, same problem. I created new profile, same issue. Eventually, I totally uninstalled FF, removing program itself, removing Appdata folder and even registry entry. Installed fresh copy of FF, same problem exists. Then, I noticed one thing. When I tried to sync fresh FF installation on my laptop, it synced everything, EXCEPT for addons. So, something is preventing me doing anything regarding addons. Themes install just fine. I've struggling with this problem since yesterday and at this point I totally ran out of any fresh ideas how to solve this issue, thus posting here. I'll appreciate any fresh idea as what to do next. Thanks

After a crash earlier today within my 32bit install of Firefox, I upgraded to the 64bit version. Since then I have not been able to play videos from sites that utilize DRM.

I have tried the following:

  1. Check and Uncheck "Play DRM content"
  2. Check for updates while in the addons related page.
  3. Checked my hosts file which is blank
  4. Stopped my AV and attempted to update as well as Enable/Disable Play DRM
  5. Get a 404 when attempting to go to "redirector . gvt1 . com" site.

When I looked in my profile directory, I noted that both the "gmp-gmpopenh264" and "gmp-widevinecdm" directories are empty. I found and downloaded the most recent openh264 dll for windows 64bit. Firefox continues to say "OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. will be installed shortly." I have not found the most recent wildevine version so I have not tried to update it manually.

Could there be something squirrelly with my user profile that needs to be rebuilt? (I can export the bookmarks, etc) The 32bit Firefox crashed with no messages while watching a live YouTube stream. I just installed over without uninstalling the previous version. I was afraid of losing my current settings. The crash caused my "previous session" to be lost.

After this latest Firefox install, my zoom percentages are wonky. They were set at 100% before but now I have to adjust them to around 70% for the same zoom effect, but that doesn't fix how much taller the tab space is and bookmark space relative to the previous version.

Hello. I use developer's version of ff for a few weeks (currently on 107.0b2). I recently decided to switch back to stable version 106. However, when I run it it says

``` Using an older version of Firefox can corrupt bookmarks and browsing history already saved to an existing Firefox profile. To protect your information, create a new profile for this installation of Firefox. ```
So, how do I move from developer's version back to stable without losing anything?
(OS: debian 11, if it matters)
I am very unhappy after 2 weeks using the current version of Firefox 109.0.1.8427 on Win 10. Most of my prior add-ons are gone or do not work, even though Firefox shows them as installed.
I can't live with this version; most of my prior add-ons are not accessible (no symbols to click on even though Firefox says they are installed). The others are missing or require me to access the application menu plus several more clicks, instead of single-clicking an icon on the Firefox header.
How can I get back to the prior version (without having to determine and save/restore everything else that changed in my Win 10 sysres since the current Firefox was installed)?
Hi,
Because numerous things did not work with version 116, I downloaded previous version of the browser and installed it. When it started it said something like "you are trying to use the previous version so some things may not work, would you like to create a new profile?" and there was a choice "yes" or "exit". So I chose "yes" - because how creating a new profile could mean something bad? But it did - it deleted all my bookmarks and settings. I have used mozilla for years, everything was in it. How to restore the bookmarks and everything back? It, by the way, upgraded itself to 116 anyway.
This has been going on for a while now, since I want to switch from a certain popular browser to Firefox which I have on another computer, I tried to install Firefox Developer Edition first as I just prefer it and it has some features of which I use sometimes.
However, when I tried to open the browser, it shows a window for like a millisecond then closes. I've also tried with a normal install of Firefox and the same thing happens. I've looked into the Profiles and here is what I've found:
A folder called startupCache (empty) And a file called .startup-incomplete (empty)
Here's what I get when I install dev edition and try to run it:
Two folders, one is dev-edition-default, and the other is dev-edition-default-a very big number
I'll provide a screenshot in this post so you understand all the profile folders.
[https://imgur.com/a/PERMib0 https://imgur.com/a/PERMib0 ] https://imgur.com/a/PERMib0 In dev-edition-default I have the same two files/folders as before, and one more: cache2 which contains the following:
A folder called doomed (empty) And a folder called entries (it has files in it)
In the dev-edition-default-verybignumber I have just startupcache and .startup-incomplete.
If anyone has any idea how to fix neither of my Firefoxes stating up, please let me know!
Prior to getting some desktop PC upgrades that required a new install of Windows 11 and a new install of Firefox, I backed up my entire PC (yea!).
Now that I have re-installed Firefox, I see that I have none of my saved bookmarks and so I want to restore the Firefox profile - all of it or at least the bookmarks.
I have tried following the Firefox instructions for this, but am apparently not doing it right.
I can't seem to locate the bookmarks file, for starters, in my backed up files. I find the profile but I don't find anything like places.sqlite.
Can someone help me so that I am locating the right (and complete) files, copying them correctly, and then switching to the new/old profile correctly?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not exactly sure what this is called. Maybe it's in the cache, but I don't know. One of the fastest timesavers I have is that I use the Firefox url feature that makes suggestions as soon as I start typing a url. I pull up dozens, possibly hundreds of articles that I refer to frequently this way, so that I don't have to bother bookmarking them. I don't clear the cache, to keep these references from disappearing. I have to move computers now. My longtime mac is not working well anymore. Is there any way to bring these url suggestions with me when I migrate? Thank you.
