During video playback or audio playback, the volume in my sound mixer will suddenly be lowered to below 80% inexplicably. This happens constantly. And I can in fact make it do it by putting a video back, for example. It appears to be whenever the sound element of firefox is stopped and started it will reset itself, today to around 71%, but other days or instances to 85%.

No other apps on my system are having this issue, so I'm not sure where to begin!

Thanks in advance for any ideas..

Any ideas what could be causing this quite bizarre issue?

Hello good people, This is rather a request for advice than an issue report. I' ve learned about the facebook container add-on and wanted to know if there is a need for it if someone was making sure to exclusively open facebook.com in its own profile. Say you set up a profile(from about:profiles) namely "BIg Brothers" for notorious trackers like google, facebook , twitter etc so they can perpetually track each other with simple rules to observe like : - Never open an external(shared) link - Never access any other website through that profile.

Is there a particular feature the add-on is bringing up that the native interface is missing ? The other reason is add-ons are great but they tend to bloat the system impeding the browsing experience. I am the kind of guy who opens 7 concurrent tabs each running heavy js code so the lighter the better.

Thank you in advance,

Dom

Firefox came preinstalled as snap package on ubuntu 18.04, but has been giving trouble since

I'm running through problems when downloading files:

The only way I can view a downloadable file is by saving it somewhere in my home directory and then open it which is a pain!

The open with dialog box only give url script handler and firefox browser as options neither of each work

On ubuntu support it was suggested to remove snap package and install deb package, but what's the point of a snap package then?

It look s like firefox doesn't handle anything beyond home directory, while as said above chrome does instead

Any clues

PKCS#11 Security device stops allowing login of CAC credentials

Hello, I use Firefox 75.0 on an Ubuntu 18.04 system to access CAC enabled (smartcards) US government websites. Generally all works as desired. However, intermittently (couple times a day ---> once every few days) the browser simply, quietly refuses to allow the CAC to login, when I visit a CAC-secured site. A browser dialog is presented and asks for my PIN, but closes without error, yet the PIN is not accepted and the site (correctly) refuses access. In my troubleshooting, I found that if I look at the Security Devices tab under Privacy&Security, the PKCS#11 module shows the CAC as not logged in. If I attempt to log in at that page, I get the usual PIN dialog, but after submission, a new message box appears with the notice that "Log in failed", and I can see that module still says Log out.

It appears that some file lock or related mechanism is in effect and needs to be reset. The only solution I have been able to use is close Firefox completely (all windows), and restart. This works but not desired as I have several different sites I'm active on, and each requires separate logins.

Any suggestions for further troubleshooting would be appreciated. My forays into Google searches all end up as help to get CAC card working, which is not my problem. The card works until Firefox (or something related in the middleware) freezes and the only recourse is to restart.

Cheers, --Jim

Hello, In Ubuntu 20.04 (Firefox 76), there is this strange bug. Whenever I reboot/shutdown and start my computer, and after login when I open Firefox (after bootup), the previous session (i.e. the session which was present at the time of reboot) will be opened at the same ubuntu workspace location.

Eg. I had 3 tabs opened in workspace 2 and I shutdown my system. Then I again boot into Ubuntu and open firefox (in the default workspace aka workspace 1), the browser will resume its previous state i.e. it will open in the workspace 2 with the 3 tabs open. So this is like a state restore.

I have disabled Restore Previous Session in the "Startup" section of preferences.

Recently the web push notifications got a popup UI that is really disturbing. Show up on all desktops etc., it interrupts me in what I’m doing. I really very strongly dislike this change.

I would like to revert to how it was before (pre-76.0 ? Not sure exactly which version): - notifications get sent to my desktop/OS’s notification center (running OpenSuse + KDE), - no popup is displayed when a notification is triggered.

That way: - notifications will respect the OS « do not disturb » mode, - notifications get shown through a unified UI for all applications, - I can pick how « interrupting » I want each notification to be, - In particular I can focus while on my computer without being interrupted, and poll the notifications occasionally.

Is there a way (maybe a about:config option) to keep notifications but disable the popup behaviour?

I'm wondering how to configure a default zoom level for all users.

I want

about:preferences -> Default zoom

to have a default value of 133% instead of 100%.

So far I'm using the files

firefox/distribution/distribution.ini

and

firefox/browser/defaults/preferences/all-XXX.js

for configuration, but I don't know which keyword to use. I compared the content-prefs.sqlite file between to test profiles, one having 100% default zoom, the other having 133% default zoom.

The database says there is a setting "browser.content.full-zoom", but I can't configure this with the *.ini or *.js file, or can I?

I also read this:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Preferences/A_brief_guide_to_Mozilla_preferences

but it didn't help.

Hi,

I am trying to configure PKI based authentication and encryption system in my organization using Hardware token. I was able to install my hardware token feitan ePass2003 Auto in privacy->security device. I am able to see my certificates under view certificate after entering my password for private key. After research on internet, came to know that Applet based client authentication is obsolete and hence i have configure my token in Firefox. The next step i.e Authentication page is where i have got stuck up. Can any one please give details guide on how to use cryptoken operation(challenge & signing) and access to token in JavaScript at client side login page. I could not get hold of any library of java script for access to token through Firefox. Any guidance is highly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't really know if this is a bug, or a feature of Firefox's JavaScript core engine. Say I have an array:

var array = [];

I set the length of the array to a very large number:

array.length = 155555555;

This now turns the variable array into an array with 155555555 blank slots. If I then do:

array[502039410402] = 5; // Notice that 502039410402 > the previously set 155555555 for length

array.length remains at 155555555, but the actual array is appended with a sudden index 502039410402 (i.e., index 155555553, 155555554, and then suddenly index 502039410402; see screenshot), with that element containing 5. Is this a bug, or an intended feature?

I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know.

Thanks!

Hello.

I use 76.0.1 (64-bit) on Xubuntu 20.04 and same thing happens on every computer. After clean system shutdown or restart, Firefox keeps restoring tabs I used. This never happens if I close Firefox first. Also this never happens when I close and reopen firefox in the same session. I tried everything: - obvious "Restore previous session" restore in options - about:config turning various options: browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash browser.sessionstore.restore_tabs_lazily browser.sessionstore.resuming_after_os_restart browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions - i even created "user.json" with restore line as someone suggested None of these measures helped. I thought that It may be connected to XFCE session store somehow, so I went through disabling that too - no change. No other program happens to do the same. After reboot, when someone starts Firefox, all my tabs from previous session are reopened instantly. This happens on my both Xubuntu workstations, but never happens on my Windows computers. Please help.

Recently i got a problem related to push notifications on Firefox, I've already subscribed (or allowed) to notification permission on some websites like Twitter, Gmail but I don't receive any notification when I closed their tabs . It's working fine if the tab of particular website is loaded on Firefox but once I closed it I don't get any notification especially from those websites on which I allowed the notification permission.

Some people suggested me to use chromium or other browsers to get this behavior but I don't want to replace Firefox with any other browser because their dev tools are better than what others are suggesting to me.

From a non-programmer who used Chrome a lot until recently:

If I hit Cntrl-H like I would in Chrome, I get a frustratingly limited view. Why does it not show timestamps? So I spend time searching and find out about the Library window, and Control+Shift+H. Okay, so that's at least making it possible to see timestamps. Typing this right now, I don't remember if I had to manually add a column to see timestamps, but if I did Jesus Christ. I nearly installed some other software (MZHistoryView) before finding out about Control+Shift+H, just to see timestamps.

Also, every time I press the awkward Control+Shift+H hotkey, it resets the view to "Today". I don't know why it wouldn't default to "Just keep scrolling for as many days as you want". If I search for a specific site immediately after opening the window, then it includes entries for more days than just today. But before searching, it cuts off my view to just today. What's the point of that? Who would want such a restriction as the default view?
