We're exploring the possibility of implementing a mass update for Firefox through backend management, leveraging PowerShell scripts or any applicable method that can streamline the update process for our users.

Additionally, we've encountered instances where users have installed Firefox via local profiles, posing challenges for centralized updates. I'd appreciate any insights or guidance on how we can address this issue effectively to ensure these installations align with our centralized management approach.

Hi all,

we are using Mozilla Firefox ESR in our enterprise environment.

Is there a documentation which URL's Firefox uses when (Mozilla Maintenance Service) when it tries to update his version ?

We have tried with following URL's on our Firewall:

aus.mozilla.org aus2.mozilla.org aus3.mozilla.org aus4.mozilla.org aus5.mozilla.org download.cdn.mozilla.net archive.mozilla.org ftp.mozilla.org

It is finding the new version, but when trying to download the update it fails.

Thank you for any help on this case.

I posted this previously and got zero response and the post is now archived. Hoping for better luck this time.

We have rolled Firefox ESR to all of our computers. On some of them the Maintenance Service is working correctly and installing updates with no user interaction. On other computers, users are getting a UAC prompt to enter admin credentials to install updates. I have tried various changes that I have found across the web from Deleting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MozillaMaintenance\Security to uninstalling and re-installing the Maintenance Service. All of the users/computers have the same policies applied via Group Policy (Application Autoupdate: Enabled and Disable Update: Disabled) and are not local admins.

Hello,

We have a vulnerability scanner in our environment that tells us when Firefox needs to be updated. We found that in order to update it, we need to go the settings tab and then to the updates portion of the menu to initiate the update. After this we are asked to restart. Any way to avoid this entire process?

We are currently looking at devices with out-of-date Firefox versions these are listed with vulnerabilities within our environment and need to be patched to the latest version to cover those vulnerabilities.

With the volume of patching required, we want to be able to enable auto-update and allow the application to patch itself.

However, the current options via group policy don't seem to work as I've read on such threads https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1876302.

The application Autoupdate has been enabled within local group policy as a test and nothing seems to force the application to update unless a user enters the application and selects about.

Reading into how Firefox does this it doesn't seem viable to enable an auto-update feature without specifying the version it needs to upgrade to, we can currently patch to specific versions using SCCM.

Is anyone aware of a solution to this problem or another method?

Looked into calling updater.exe and the maintenance service but nothing i successful when trying to call on these.

Hello, I am trying to manage extensions in my organization. What would be the best way to block all extensions by default and allow only certain specific extensions?

I am following the Mac OS Extension Settings Policy and adding this to a configuration profile, but I am not sure how to manipulate it to suit my needs.

What would be the best way to go about this, and what would the plist file look like?

Thanks!

We have a customer using our SaaS solution running through Firefox 91.12.0 ESR. The web application we provide requires access to the camera on the local machine so we can capture a photo. We give them instructions and they configure their instance of Firefox to ALLOW access to the camera, along with several other adjustments (like allowing pop-ups, and no autofill).

However, whenever they restart Firefox the camera permission reverts back to the DEFAULT of Always Ask. The other settings adjustments we make, like pop-ups and no autofill stick around, but not the camera setting.

We've checked the PREF.js file in the Profile folder and that doesn't appear to be a problem. On our in-house machines we are running the same version of Windows and Firefox and cannot reproduce the problem.

The customer has recently applied the upgrade from an earlier version of Firefox ESR to 91.12.0. The customer has also imaged the PC and copied over to a large number of additional machines for use around their organization. This problem is causing a serious disruption to their deployment of the updated PC's as we work with them to try and troubleshoot the problem.

Any ideas on what to try would be appreciated.

Hello,

I have a plug-in installed on multiple machines using group policy. The installation source is a link to <my_add_on.xpi>. My question is regarding the updates approach. If I replace the source file with an updated version, but keeping the name/link the same. Will Firefox automatically update the plug-in? Only found brief docs here: https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md#extensionsettings """

If you need to update the extension, you can change the name of the extension and it will be automatically updated. Extensions installed from file URLs will additional be updated when their internal version changes.

""" I don't point to a local file, but rather a URL. Does that make a difference. Or I'll have to provide the updates.json in the plug-in manifest that points to the latest version?

Thank you.

Hello

We use our own CA to secure some websites on the internal network. Until version 101.0, the SSL was working correctly. I have updated today to firefox 101 and all our internal websites started giving SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN. There are no issues with external CA issued certificates, so I'm assuming it is something related to the way we generate the certificates. Were there any changes done at version 101 which might reject certificates with a valid common name? Is there a way to disable it and revert to version 100 options?

Thank you

Hi Team, I'm using the Zscaler in my network, when I use the Firefox, appear the error:

"Software is Preventing Firefox From Safely Connecting to This Site

www.googleadservices.com is most likely a safe site, but a secure connection could not be established. This issue is caused by Zscaler Root CA, which is either software on your computer or your network.

What can you do about it?

www.googleadservices.com has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely...." Picture 1

I have root certificate in path: /usr/share/ca-certificates/mozilla$ Picture 2

I run the command for updates CA but it doesn't work: sudo update-ca-certificates

Errors keep popping up.

The certificate not appear in the Certificate manager > Authorities Picture 3

But if I open the firefox > Settings > Privacy & Security> Certifcates > View Certificates > Import And I import the certificate ZscalerRoot.crt and I mark the option "trust this CA to identify websites" the firefox works, and I can open the site without error message.

Picture 4

And the certificate appear in the manager certificate: Picture 5

How can I put the command terminal certificate, which I have on hundreds of machines?

Note: I need to put the certificate only for internet access.

Hi,

I deployed the last Firefox ESR update and I just found about this new feature : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manage-downloads-preferences-using-downloads-menu

So files are now downloaded and users are no longer prompted for what to do. My question is can we change this to "Ask whether to open or save files" using policies.json?

Kind regards,

McB

I am an administrator at a university and we use Blackboard and Zoom as a couple of the tools at our university. We install Firefox on all of our PCs across campus. After a recent update, when our instructors try to launch Zoom using the integration setup in Blackboard, the meeting fails to launch. We have found that disabling Enhanced Protection fixes this issue. Is there a way to add this exception to an install file that can be sent across many PCs on our campus? We have hundreds of PCs and going from one to another to install this exception would not be practical.

Do you have any suggestions? Justin

Every time Firefox is opened it gives an error message (see image).

I have tried:

  • Deleting and reinstalling.
  • Deleting Firefox folder in //users/xxxxxxx/Library/Application Support & //Library/Caches then uninstalling Firefox.
  • Both above using older Firefox versions.

This issue is happening on all of the Macs in our org. We have no custom configurations. The pkg is installed via FileWave device management. It occurs whether installed through FileWave or manually.

Thanks
