Thunderbird 115 forcefully migrated my older profile and did NOT leave a way to go back?

That is NOT the way to do this.

You need create a NEW profile for the NEW version and LEAVE THE OLD PROFILE ALONE!

You must also have an alert, and explain the process, transparently giving the owner of decades of e-mail the opportunity to safely upgrade AND have the opportunity migrate back if they so desire.

How DARE Mozilla treat users and their data so casually.

This is NOT the way to do this.

Currently FURIOUS that this trusted tool has left me NO way to downgrade back to 112 except to rebuild my profile (and all the various e-mail accounts) from fucking scratch.

My wife and I have both used Thunderbird successfully since the Turnpike email clients became obsolete with Win7. We have enjoyed doing this. I have also made occasional donations over these years to support Thunderbird when appeals have been made. We are both, however, disgusted with the new layout of Thunderbird and have now downgraded back to ver 91. We will continue using this earlier version as long as we can and have no intention of upgrading again to your new monstrosity. The familiarity of a layout is a vital part of using any software and we have not found the new layout, FORCED upon us, at all helpful or in any way "better" than before. Your failure to provide any flexibility in adjusting the new layout to become more familiar to us is dismal - have you not heard the expression "If it 'aint broke, don't fix it"? Not all of us want the latest gismos and features and are quite content to continue with what we have. You could at least have still allowed that possibility in the options provided rather than denying us it by FIAT. If it proves impossible to continue with the earlier version at some time in the future we will find another email client to use instead. Sadly we will then no longer be supporting your work.

Since yesterday, my Thunderbird upgraded to the latest 115.3.1 (64-bit) from the previous (perfectly working) 102.15.1 on macOS Ventura 13.5.2 (MacBook Air Retina, 13-inch, 2019).

The new Thunderbird 115.3.1 works for me only in Troubleshooting mode. Once in Troubleshooting mode, I removed all the Add-on, themes, dictionaries, language packages, etc., and restarted. I also removed two of the four email accounts I was accessing without a problem with the Th.102.15.1 version. I left only my primary email account (Outlook with IMAP) and Gmail, both working with security SSL/TLS and authentication OAuth2.

Still, when in normal mode, Thunderbird 115.3.1 gets stuck on 'Sending login information' and freezes.

I spent at least four hours between yesterday and today looking for solutions, but none is working.

Please, help me to fix the problem.

I have used Thunderbird massively for work since ever, and I'd like to stick with it, but this new release is giving me a hard time!

Thank you

How do I downgrade to an older version of Thunderbird on Rocky Linux (RHEL clone)?

For my last update (yum update -y) I got Thunderbird 115 which has lots of problems.

If I try “yum downgrade thunderbird”, I get the error: Last metadata expiration check: 3:43:41 ago on Tue 14 Nov 2023 04:57:52 PM EST. Package thunderbird of lowest version already installed, cannot downgrade it. Dependencies resolve

I downloaded: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/102.9.1/linux-x86_64/en-US/thunderbird-102.9.1.tar.bz2 but when I unzip and click the thunderbird icon, Thunderbird doesn’t pick up my Thunderbird profile. I saw some windows downgrade tutorial that said to delete compatibility.ini from profile but when I deleted compatibility.ini Thunderbird still doesn’t pick my profile.

I understand that Supernova changed the database format of email storage making rollback more difficult.

Well, either I get to roll back to the old UI, or the pre-Supernova Tbird, or I'm done with Tbird and done donating. This update is absolute shite and not being warned of the changes it would make was really, really shitty.

So how do I roll back, oh geniuses who developed this new shite Tbird?

I found the only way to get rid of Supernova 115 was to revert back to a prior virtual machine that had ver 102.7.1.

Ver 102.7.1 would not accept the Supernova profile. I created a new profile.

Creating the new profile did not even ask me about existing accounts & existing mail. How do I get the accounts and mail in the old profile and move/copy them to the new profile?

Thanks so much, Mark.

Thunderbird changed screen view today, and it is a total disaster. Command links are a tiny unrecognizable icons. Is this a bad joke making our lives difficult, or perhaps you want us to leave Thunderbird and search for another email program?!

I tried to customize, but it did not fix anything. If the old well functioning version is no longer available, I will move to another email program.

Really disappointed
