Hi

I am running Thunderbird on WIndows 10. I have eight different email accounts, but only one profile.

This morning on startup, all accounts and folders were gone and the "open your account" tab was open.

After several hours of frantic searching on the net, I took the most recent profile "prefs-9" and used it to overwrite "prefs.js" This brought back all my local folders and saved emails.

However, the email accounts used to be Wotsit@gmail followed by Inbox, Sent, Draft etc. Now the first account name has been moved, leaving behind its old Inbox, Sent etc with the correct email count but nothing at all in the right hand pane. The account header has re-appeared amongst other account headers but with nothing in the Inbox, Sent etc.

What I need to do is make all the emails visible in the "headerless" section, and return the correct header above them.

Here is what it sort of looks like -

Inbox (3) 2100 Sent 998 Drafts

Then further down after other accounts - Wotsit@gmail.com Inbox Sent Drafts

How can I move the Wotsit header back to where it should be?

I really appreciate the help you folks offer, and the time you put in helping us mere mortals!

I have been having authentication errors with one of my GMail accounts. I went digging and noticed that the authentication method was set to Normal Password. I know that at the end of May, Google started denying "less secure apps", so I switched the account authentication method to OAuth2.

When I hit "Get Messages", the OAuth2 window popped up as expected, and I entered my credentials and allowed access to Thunderbird. After that, still received the authentication failures.

After that, I read all the support articles I could find on this, and I tried everything anyone suggested. At this point, I have completely reinstalled Thunderbird fresh (I made sure to remove any old profiles in the %AppData% folder).

So there are no longer any old saved passwords being used instead, there is nothing of Thunderbird on my computer.

I am stuck at trying to add my GMail account. The OAuth2 window opens up, I enter my credentials and give Thunderbird access, and the error message that pops up below "Checking Password ..." is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

I have double and triple-checked both username and password (and they are working in the OAuth2 window).

I have tried disabling AVG (the antivirus I use). I also disabled AVG and then turned off Windows Defender.

I even tried changing the "general.useragent.compatMode.firefox" setting to "true". That caused a different type of OAuth2 window to show, but still didn't work and got the same error.

Still no luck.

I can only assume at this point that Thunderbird is pulling the username/password from somewhere that I have no idea how to access and it is using that instead of the OAuth2 token being returned (which doesn't get saved).

Beyond that I am at a loss. Anyone with any ideas of what it might be?

Thanks, Josh

I recently updated my system (OpenSuse15.4) which included a Firefox update to version 109.0.

I regularly use my mic for google voice, however even though I can select my microphone in Google voice, It never shows any input.

I tested my mic in other apps and it works fine. When I pull up my systems pulse audio volume control (pavucontrol), it does not show firefox in the recording tab like it used to when using Google Voice.

To test to see if it was a Google Voice error, I also tried testing my mic at https://mictests.com/, and zoom.com, but after selecting my desired input device, mictests.com was also unable to record anything, and again, pavucontrol did not show anything being recorded.

I have attached an image of pavucontrol that shows audacity recording audio. Normally, I would also see Firefox in this window when using the mic.

I have 60+ mailboxes as I manage a lot of domains. The problem is that if I add a new mailbox it seems to work fine downloading messages but the outgoing smtp settings overwrite a previous one. The limit seems to be 48 I'm on TB ver 115.6.0 (64-bit) on Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon. Looking through prefs.js the highest number in the smtp server list is 49. Is it a bug or is there some setting that limits new identities?

Inside the app(Thunderbird), I go to addons.thunderbird.net and attempt to install an add-on and this box with this button inside it pops up and I have to click on that button to confirm installation of that add-on. A few weeks ago. The error message of which I have attached a screenshot started appearing in Thunderbird. I do (among others) have a gmail account for use in connection with a voluntary association of which I am chairman but the error message seems to be unconnected with it. If I type in the credentials for that account, the message goes but returns within a minute. Just clicking on cancel without entering any credentials causes the message to go away for anything between ten minutes and two hours. The gmail account itself is working correctly -- I can send and receive emails using it at all times. Since I can get rid of the false error message, it is not preventing me from using Thunderbird but its continual reappearance is very irritating. Any thoughts on how I might get rid of it, please.

I like using Thunderbird, and have for years. Suddenly this morning I can't send emails. I can receive them, but I can't send them. My internet provider is spectrum and I have spent the last two hours with them trying to resolve the issue. No luck. I have verified the SMTP server and port, I have tried changing my password. The problem remains. When I send an email I get Log in to server mail.bresnan.net with my user name......failed. I can send and receive email directly through my Spectrum account (spectrum used to be bresnan) but hate having to log in 10 times a day just to see my email. I can't say I am computer literate. I have tried a restart, and turning my computer off. Neither helped. I'm hoping this is a simple fix, but I have no idea how to fix it. Spectrum did an update 2 days ago, I got FOUR Microsoft updates yesterday. Can anyone help? Thanks

I am an avid clip and paster. Historically, I have had no problem pasting images I have copied into emails that I am composing. Using a simple ctrl-V always worked fine for me. For some reason, I can no longer do this. When I ctrl-V paste into the message body, nothing happens. Similarl, if I Insert/Image and select a file, an outline box just displays with no image in it. Through test emailing from another account, I have found that the only way I can send an image is to file attach it to the message I am composing. The resulting email displays the image correctly in the body text area. What is up with this? I have tried reinstalling Thunderbird from the most current download from the Mozilla website - did not help at all. I have gone into my google account in a web browser and while composing an email message, ctrl-v inserts an image just fine. What gives? It seems like this may have been affected in the last update. My current version is 102.13.0

As the headline says:

I have got a bunch of spam messages which I am currently investigating for certain reasons. The spammers have set the "Date:" header far in the future (e.g. 2026-01-04), and the "Date" column in the message list as expected shows these weird dates.

However, the "Received" column in the message list as well shows the same weird dates although the topmost "Received:" header in every message is correct.

Here is an excerpt from the header section of one of those messages which shows the "Date:" header and all "Received:" headers (sorry that I couldn't find out how to format the following passage as code):

Date: Thu, 14 Jan 2026 03:38:55 -0800 Received: from deliver ([unix socket]) by morn (Cyrus 3.0.8-Debian-3.0.8-6+deb10u5) with LMTPA; Fri, 05 Mar 2021 12:17:37 +0100 Received: from pop.example.com [a.b.c.d] by morn.dep01.example.com with POP3 (fetchmail-6.4.0.beta4) for <user@localhost> (single-drop); Fri, 05 Mar 2021 12:17:37 +0100 (CET) Received: from server.spammer.com ([e.f.g.h]) by odysseus.example.com (8.15.2/8.15.2/Debian-14~deb10u1) with ESMTP id 125BHDIJ001425 for <user@example.com>; Fri, 5 Mar 2021 12:17:13 +0100 Received: from imap-director-5.dovecot.xion.foo.bar (i.j.k.l) by imap-backend-28.dovecot.xion.foo.bar with LMTP id [an22] (envelope-from <bounces+XmuZjwsANPH/dOCq73______________3@mail.randomcharactershere.com>) for <to>; Thu, 14 Jan 2026 03:38:55 -0800

Please note that there are other headers between the ones shown above. I have removed these other headers. I did not change the order of the headers shown above.

Of course, I am aware that the last "Received:" header causes the problem. But this at once leads to the question how TB chooses the "Received:" header from which it extracts the date / time to display in the "Received" column.

As far as I know, SMTP servers and other software involved in the transportation of messages must put their own "Received:" header (if any) above all other "Received:" headers, so that we can reproduce how the message hopped through the net by reading all "Received:" headers from bottom to top. That is, the "Received:" header which reflects delivery to the IMAP server my MUA is connected to always must be topmost.

TB obviously does the opposite (consider the bottom-most "Received:" header the most recent one, i.e. the one whose date should be displayed in the "Received:" column), or it is trying to be overly smart (sort the "Received:" headers by their date, consider the "Received:" header with the "highest" date to reflect the last hop, and consequently display that "highest" date in the "Received:" column). Both would be wrong.

Could anybody please show me how to get around that situation? Is there an extension which does it right? Is it correct that (according to the SMTP RFCs) each software component must put its "Received:" header (if any) above all other "Received:" headers as the message flows through the net?

Thank you very much in advance!

P.S. As a bonus, could somebody please explain how to format something as code here?

In case anyone's interested, under Debian 12, when I resume from hibernation, if I have Firefox running as well as Tbird, if I click on a link in an email, the existing instance of Firefox is ignored and a new instance is opened. The first instance is in fact frozen -- it looks as it should but trying to change tabs or open a new tab is inactive. Seems I have to kill the open instance of FF, then if I click on a link in an email, FF pops up as it should with a new tab for the link, but the existing tabs are all there and all functional. It feels like a bug -- Tbird seems not to know that FF is already running.

I get the what's described in the "subject" (Microsoft message is "We couldn't send the code. Please try again.") for one specific account every time I startup Thunderbird (TB) and TB (automatically) checks for messages.

Please refer to attached screen-shot example.

This is what happens when I request Microsoft (MS) to send a "code" to an alternate email account to confirm the account belongs to me that MS is requiring me to do in TB.

I can successfully login on the web to the account that needs the code to confirm it's my email account and I can login to the account that is supposed to receive the code (but can't because of this issue).

This has been going on for close to 24 hours as of this time.

I wish enterprises like MS would make sure they do not have any potential "glitches" if they are going to force users to get a "code" to confirm their accounts (that the user knows is theirs) is theirs. These kinds of issues through not fault of the user doesn't serve the user well at all. My theory - ditch anything that can possibly preclude a user access to their respective email account(s) - makes sense to me!!
