Firefox uses too much memory, sometimes 20GB on a 32GB Windows machine. It's usually one or two threads which are hogging incredible amounts of memory. This time I had about 30 tabs open.

Today I tried Firefox about:memory "Minimize Memory Usage" several times, and it was largely ineffective.

I did a "create memory dump file" of one 5+GB bloated thread using task manager, but can't find a way to upload the compressed archive with this report for analysis. Finding a way to report this issue was quite a challenge. It seems most help avenues are now missing/moved, and other reports of this type of issue are "Archived".

I tried killing the 2 bloated Firefox threads and checked for tabs which might be missing or malfunctioning. Everything continued to run normally while more than 10GB of memory was returned to system use. Leaving these bloated threads overnight doesn't improve anything, in fact I can often get up and find my machine is completely out of memory because Firefox consumed it all. My smallest machines have 16GB RAM.

These memory issues aren't new. I've been reporting them off and on for more than a decade. They get better for a few months after reporting, then they get bad again in a few more months. The battle to get memory leaks fixed is continuous while Firefox springs more leaks.

I'd like to give you the memory image I generated so you'll at least have some real data to look at and analyze for this report.

The attached task manager snapshot image is a very minor example of this issue. The numbers keep increasing like there are one or more large memory leaks.

Good morning I have updated Thunderbird to the lastest version 115.6.0 (64-bit) on my Mac with Ventura 13.3.1 (22E261) and now I can not see my mailboxes and folders. Have tried everything - nothing works. Rest bookmarks work. Contacts and other functions. I can create and send letters from any of my mailboxes, I can search letters in all mailboxes in search field, but I can not see on the left bookmark nothing - empty list of mailboxes. I have download the program again, reinstalled, changed Thunderbird file in Programms - same thing. Please help.

I have 4 email accounts setup. Only one is in use at a time. There is one personal and three tied to 3 volunteer organizations I work with. A few days ago I began getting a Send Message Error window ( I assume generated by Windows) when I attempted to send a message from any of the accounts and thereafter I received a Thunderbird Unable to connect to your IMAP server error message.

My ISP advises they are not restricting connection numbers and this is a Thunderbird issue. Nevertheless, following the Thunderbird Message instructions I reduced the number of cached connections under Advanced by half. This made no difference. There is no one with my ISP who will discuss Thunderbird or seems to know much about it and they want me to use their webmail, which sorely lacks the sophistication of Thunderbird.

Read all of the relevant messages I could locate on the Thunderbird site on the issue and tried most of the suggested solutions, to no avail.

During the solution efforts, all INBOX mail in my primary personal account disappeared, but the rest of the folders are OK and so are those in the other accounts. It is in the ISP IMAP webmail folder.

But when I try to email my ISP I get the Unable to Connect to your IMAP server message or the Thunderbird error message. No outgoing message.

I did look at the Proflies link which I see references the ISP IMAP account. It shows 0 messages and 1.1 GB which I assume is the size of the INBOX file so assume there are messages and the 1.1 GB are the messages, safe but untransferable to Thunderbird. When I clik on Repair Folder the link attemps to go to the ISP IMAP account but the Thunderbird connection error message reappears shutting the process down.

When I just recently upgraded (32 bit) to 115.7 from 115.2 a number, not all, of the folders under my personal account also disappeared (but didn't touch the other accounts). They remain on the ISP webmail site (Zimbra). Could not find a way under Thunderbird how to reimport the missing folders from the ISP webmail account to Thunderbird so have been moving messages I need to save to the folders via the webmail site then reentering Thunderbird.

If this is unclear it's because I am so confused now that I frankly don't know where I am, way way above my pay grade! It appears I've done enough damage so quitting and looking for help.

I have to manage a number of joint email addresses which are outlook.com addresses, so I have them all installed on Thunderbird.

Up until recently, it worked fine, although every few months Outlook.com would not allow the sync because of some security issue (wanting an alternative email address, wanting an alternative phone number, wanting me to confirm that the last sync was me). I would sign in to the email account on a browser, fix the issue, and then it would work again.

As of a few days ago, Thunderbird is showing the "Login to account XXX failed" and "Login to server outlook.office365.com with username XXX failed" for maybe a dozen of the addresses every time I open Thunderbird. If I login to the email on a browser, and force Thunderbird to "Retry" several times, it will sync the account - but the next day, the same issue arises with the same account. When I check the account activity, it shows successful automatic syncs.

Is there another setting I need to check or change to make Thunderbird work with Outlook.com addresses?

I'm just getting started with Thunderbird on Windows 10. To test it, I set up my yahoo IMAP account xxxxx777@yahoo.com using a yahoo app password. It worked fine, so I deleted that account and set up my 'real' yahoo IMAP account, which is xxxxx@yahoo.com, using another app password from Yahoo. This is a different yahoo account, so I needed to get another app password. Again, that account worked fine.

However I then chose to delete that account on Thunderbird and return to using my xxxxx777@yahoo.com yahoo IMAP account, by getting a new app password and following the Thunderbird instructions for setting up an account. The trouble is that Thunderbird is now connecting to my xxxxx@yahoo IMAP server and receiving those emails and folders instead of my xxxxx777@yahoo.com emails and folders. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird and rebooted the computer. Thunderbird 'account settings' is correct.

The first tab in Thunderbird is "email- xxxxx777@yahoo.com", and the folders that follow are from my xxxxx@yahoo.com account. Each time I receive an email on my xxxxx@yahoo.com account, it shows up in Thunderbird under my xxxxx777@yahoo.com account.

I'm stumped.

Thanks, David

Worked fine until today. No updates that I know of.

Firefox runs fine most of the time. If I right-click to download an image, or click a link to download a PDF or other file, or Save HTML, I see the "Save file" dialog, click Save and then Firefox freezes up for a while, maybe a minute or two. Pages won't scroll. I can't switch tabs. I can bring up a different firefox window and it redraws its contents, but I can't scroll or do anything else.

This didn't happen a month ago, then one day after a system upgrade, it happens every time. I'm using FF 123.0.1 on Arch Linux. 64GB RAM, so it's not a memory shortage. I have upgraded one or two times more since the upgrade when this appeared. Chromium is not affected, Thunderbird is fine, and all other software continues to be fine as before, including when saving files. Only FF has this problem.

What is the problem and solution? Are there ways to gather more info to diagnose the problem, if needed?

115.8.0esr (64-bit)

This newest release has a massive memory leak. I know it's Firefox, because I look at the system monitor, and there are even more entries for firefox.com running than usual. The first one on the top of the list is the biggest resource hog, and the next one is second. All the rest have something going on, but smaller. Looking at performance in the Windows Task Manager, under performance, the memory usage goes up. Right now, it's 5.35Gb of 16Gb. At worst, several days ago, it was at 12Gb. When I force close Firefox, the memory and usage goes way, way down, to a usable level.

I wrote last night. "Ed" someone got back to me, didn't quote my message, and said he was from another department. I DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING AS LAST NIGHT. I hit the blue button, which took me here, and he advised me to do today, which brought me here, AGAIN.

If this, again, goes to "restoring access to Mozilla accounts and subscription services such as Mozilla VPN", please be professional and forward it to the right department, possibly with my message quoted, as this is the second time I'm creating it, and only have my memory on which to fall back for the first time. The logical topic is "Fix slowness, crashing, error messages, and other problems".

At the same time, other releases have had big memory leaks, and they seem to get patched quickly.

Thank you again.

For some reason, whenever I have multiple tabs open in Thunderbird, it will seemingly randomly open a new window, interrupting whatever I'm doing. What seems to happen is that the new window will contain the tab I was working with (address book, settings, etc.) and a tab for my mail, but that mail tab will have switched to a different mailbox. And then the new window that opened behind the other one will have a tab for my mail focusing on whichever mailbox was selected before.

This is driving me absolutely crazy! It keeps interrupting what I'm doing and makes me anxious to do anything in any tabs in Thunderbird. I need to fix it!

Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to stop it?

Since the last update (earlier this week) firefox uses large amounts of memory. It shows in the windows task manager 20 and more instances of firefox being open and one of them using 85%-90% of the available memory. I looked up help articles regarding this issue and one of them mentioned to "Delete content-prefs.sqlite file". When I do that it will help for a short period of time but then the issue is happening again. I'm using Windows 11 64 bit.

I'd appreciate some advice on how to deal with this.
