This file has 0 bytes and it had random letters/numbers dot HTM I "opened" the file in browser but it opened to a dead/unable to load page that was titled in the format of Computer Name>Downloads>NameOfFile or something like that.
I've ran anti virus/ malware bytes, windows defender but I don't feel safe.
What is this file and why did it download?
I'm on firefox 10 with Privacy Badger but not enabled.
Any help would be appreciated. I get paranoid of viruses/malware and what does this mean for tracking/did someone download files on my computer etc
Thank you

Hello, I have been aware of this issue for about a month now. I have, for example, added 3 sites to my "Block" list under "Manage Exceptions" in "Cookies and Site Data". They are not only repeatedly disappearing from the exceptions list without my input (which I suppose is the bigger issue), but even when they are present, the websites still end up storing cookies and site data for the session. These sites are Wikipedia, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.
In addition, I've also added a finance website to the "Allow" list, as the browser is set to delete cookies on quit. This website has also repeatedly disappeared from the exceptions list without my input.
My version of Firefox updates regularly via the Linux Update manager. I am also wondering if the "Forget about this site" option in the History menu generates this (at least to me) unexpected behaviour. I would expect that using the "Forget about this site" option would delete site data, cookies, and history, but not remove it from my Cookies exception list...

I need to call an executable script that I wrote when I click on a link to a file of a certain file type. I used to be able to browse to my script in order to set it as the desired application, but now I can't find any way to persuade Firefox to call my script when, for example, the linked-to file's name ends in '.dng'. Where is the list of such applications, and how do I add my script to it?

Hi there I am using Firefox version 140.0.4 (64 bit) have recently started to backup my profile on my Windows 10 PC using a small batch file and Winzip. However I have noticed that some, probably four, of the files within the profile folder are not backing up and Winzip says it could not open them for reading. I believe that the profile is stored at C:\Users\Phil\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.* and this path is included in the BACKUP.LST for Winzip. Omitting this line from the BACKUP.LST gives no errors so I am convinced it is a Firefox problem. I have also noticed that after a clean, hard boot one of my housekeeping programs, SuperAntispyware, thinks that a browser is open and wants to close it before running. I always backup immediately after a clean, hard boot so nothing should be open on the PC except the batch file and Winzip. I do not have Firefox in my list of Startup files. It seems to me that some of the Firefox profile files are somehow opened immediately after booting and I'm wondering if there is a setting that I've missed which will cause this. In the general settings for Firefox, the option to "Open Firefox automatically when your computer starts up" is unchecked. Incidentally, I have also run the daily backup under WinRAR and get a similar error message. Any comments / suggestions will be gratefully received. Regards and TIA Phil

I have a profile that causes odd behavior, within the profile, and to the OS.
Regarding the profile itself:
1. I use Multiple Tab Handler, which should allow me to move tabs on the tab bar with the mouse, but it does not (see image of proper behavior)
2. Normally, i can drag this padlock button to the desktop to create a shortcut. but now, it will not move/drag (see image 2)
3. I also have a backup profile from several months ago that has none of the above symptoms. However, If I substitute it's sessionstore.jsonlz4 file with the the one from the problematic profile, all the bad behavior mentioned above re-emerges.
I know this sounds strange, but, I also get external display issues when using the broken profile. These events are random, and manifest themselves differently, so I can't duplicate them. Essentially, these snips are examples of images from the taskbar tabs, or the clock area, suddenly superimposing themselves on the top portions of the taskbar toolbar area.
This is the view of my clock area (see next image 3)
In the following image, imagine that the portion on the left, that opens the start menu, is now hidden under what looks exactly like the clock area on the right, superimposed over it (see next image 4)
Those aberrations are removed by simply moving the mouse cursor over them, but they will continue to occur in any number of variations over any area of that top toolbar.
Is there a Session Manager that will save the session, to be later restored into that previous profile, but not also pass along the corruption?
Is there a way to merge two bookmark files from 2 different computers into one file?

I've been trying to set up 2fA on my firefox account, the whole process seems to work, I downloaded the backup codes and entered one to confirm and then got confirmation that 2FA was enabled (see screenshot). However, after reloading the page 2fA is shown as being disabled and indeed if I try to log out then in again I'm not asked for a code. I've tried this a couple of times now and it does the same every time. The auth app I'm using is Aegis.
Does anyone knows why this is happening ? Thanks.
[Edit: I just saw that after each time I tried to set it up, in "recent account activity" I add an error saying "Two-step authentication failed" which doesn't really makes sense...]

Hey Firefox community,
Hoping for some smart advice here! Our company relies heavily on Firefox for daily tasks, including accessing our Gmail accounts. The thing is, we need to regularly back up these Gmail accounts – not just the browser's cache or basic downloads.
I've tried the manual Google Takeout method, but it's just not practical for ongoing, multi-account backups. It feels like I'm doing a "dance" every time, and it's super time-consuming.
My question is: What's the best way to consistently and reliably back up Gmail emails when accessing them through Firefox? Like how to download old emails from gmail just in a better way. Are there any neat tricks or perhaps specific third-party email backup wizard tools that integrate well, or are simply excellent at what they do, beyond the browser's direct capabilities?
I'm looking for a more automated or efficient solution. Any insights from those who manage significant email archives would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks!

firefox updated to 128 esr all of a sudden (i didn't click update or download for this) and when i went to open firefox, the appearance and everything changed. it looked like google chrome and none of my bookmarks and settings and layouts were there. they just DISAPPEARED. i tried googling how to to fix this and for some reason every time i search it takes me to another search engine instead of google. (this is beside the main point though). I'm so frustrated right now since all my bookmarks are gone (literally having a breakdown). I tried looking through the help articles and all of them just say to use the backup profiles or that there are bookmarkbackup files in my profile folders or that firefox would download a folder with files from the old version but none of that happened. I looked into my folders for older profiles trying to find places.sqlite files but NOTHING. there is literally NO backups or profiles dated to before July 16 2025; the day it updated (shown in screenshot) and there is NO bookmarkbackup files anywhere. i have signed in to firefox prior and had my devices synced for awhile and no issues so there should have been previous profiles and data saved onto my computer. Please help, I really need my bookmarks back!

Hello, I manage a healthcare education website (https://thelabon.com/contact-us/) and I'm focused on optimizing privacy and performance for users accessing our medical content through Firefox. Currently I have not embedded it yet I am using only an image of the map instead. What are the recommended Firefox settings, extensions, or practices to ensure user privacy, especially when embedding external tools like Google Maps or analytics services? Any guidance would be appreciated!
