Long time technical, firefox user. One day starting firefox caused the system to slow unacceptably down. No changes before other than a possible background update from v122. Tried to do a Fresh Firefox v123, but firefox is attempting/constant localhost connections (ports in 40k-65k range) (attached screenshot).

It's on a Windows 10 desktop, uninstalled Firefox v123, manually deleted %appdata%\mozilla and %localappdata%\mozilla, reinstalled firefox, as soon as firefox.exe executes, I get constant localhost connection attempts from the "firefox.exe" process (Process Monitor image attached).

Ran dism, it found no system files had issues. Only firefox has an issue, the system is great without it running.

Is this a bug?

What does firefox use the localhost connection for?

Is there a secondary component that is required by firefox that it is not running on execution that it is looking for?

Ever since I installed Firefox 123.0, when I execute a search on Yahoo.com, Firefox automatically opens up a new window or tab (depending upon how you have it set up in settings) when it didn't before. When I try this with Firefox using Google.com to search, it does NOT open up a new window/tab. But when I try it with Yahoo.com when using Google Chrome, it does NOT open up a new tab. So it would appear that the behavior is being caused by something in Firefox.

I tried making various changes in settings and Firefox about:config that were recommended in previous questions here, but they did not alter the behavior. I would like the behavior to return to simply performing the search within the same window (I can always scroll back to get the original page). Can anyone help?

I've been trying to reply to moderator "Phil" who requested information regarding Firefox crashing while on Youtube. When I press "Post reply" all I get is an error message:

Oh, no! It looks like an unexpected error occurred. We've already notified the site administrators. Please try again now, or in a few minutes.

It's important "Phil" gets my message as others may be affected my possible Youtube shenanigans. If possible, can you forward this message to "Phil": Unfortunately there are only two reports generated during the problems with Youtube:

The problem caused my system to stop responding forcing me to power cycle to clear my PC, so no reports could be generated. Hopefully these two will show what the problem is. In the meantime, can you check the reply system to make certain it's working properly?

Macos sonoma m1 - firefox is default browser, duck duck go is default search engine

When doing a search directly from searchlight options, firefox uses google search instead of the duck duck go default.

All other searches from within firefox uses the default correctly.

My company uses Oracle Fusion as its ERP solution, and I frequently have to download files from Oracle BI Publisher. Prior to V123 of Firefox, which installed this morning, I could click on the file/report in Oracle Fusion, and the file/report would get moved to my Downloads folder. After the update to V123, nothing happens after I click on the file. I had a co-worker replicate the problem after his Firefox updated to V123. Please advise if this is a known issue and if there is a resolution.

My update preference for Firefox is to download but I will install it. But it consistenly (over the last numerous updates) changes it to Automatic. I do not want Automatic updates. I want to control when it updates. I do not see this issue addressed anywhere. I have checked numerous times. Please help! My sincere thank you for your time and attention to my request for help. Whenever I try to play videos on Firefox, the elements don't load right and no video will begin. On Youtube, this is usually either a blank page with no video element, or I get an error stating that the video can't be played. On Twitch, I get the streamer's default 'not streaming' message, even if they are live, and VODs don't work. I have several extensions to protect privacy and block ads, but even if they are all turned off I still have this problem. I've also tried turning my VPN off and on, and setting it to various different locations. Nothing works. I can watch videos on another browser without issue. It's so bad that I might have to stop using it entirely.

I've tried creating new profiles, disabling all add-ons, and disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection; none helped.

As you can see in the video (about the 00:16 mark) it randomly stops properly loading pages from the website, even in new tabs. The only temporary remedy is to either close and re-open FF, or press Ctrl+F5 (which I did at the end of the video).

I must add that it can happen even when loading the website for the first time in the session.

After these latest updates, EVERY, Firefox browser (derivatives included, i.e. LibreWolf, etc...) are opening VERY slowly. Its almost like the browser is freezing while opening for around 10 - 20 sec, then opening. It used to open within a second or two. If I uninstall the updates the problem goes away, BUT, windows re-installs them automatically. After it is up and running its ok. The problem seems to be on startup only.

Hi. I keep several Firefox tabs open and active on my laptop. Inevitably, Firefox slows down after a week or several weeks and would benefit from a Quit / Restart. But then (I think) I would lose my tabs, which would mean a trip to the library to login and get them back. If I do nothing, a superslow Firefox will usually mean my laptop eventually restarts on its own. Then when I open Firefox I see a "Restore Session" option, which brings everything back (I think I see Restore Session because the computer did its own shutdown). So, this does work, but I have a slow computer until the laptop does its own restart. I am wondering if I can initiate my own Firefox Quit / Restart which will give me the "Restore Session" option. For years had bookmarks in folders showing on Bookmark Toolbar. Today they are all gone. Still in my Bookmarks on the drop down Menu, but not appearing on the Toolbar. Please help. Can't seem to drop and drag them there. Also, the Bookmarks Toolbar keeps disappearing every time I go to look at a new tab.

Back in November 2023 I had the misfortune of a software engineer not doing his job correctly and he reinstalled the OS on my laptop instead of repairing some software that wasn't functioning correctly. Mercifully, I have had Microsoft support working on recovering my data, which has proved a tremendous task. 4 months and counting.

We have now finally managed to recover my passwords for my browsers, but they are encrypted. Microsoft Support have therefore asked if Mozilla do a decryption tool as they cannot open the file without it being decrypted first. If I was using Microsoft Edge, they would have been able to assist as that is a Microsoft product, but as Firefox is a third party application, they've asked for assistance. By the way, these are NOT scammers or hackers 'helping' me, but Microsoft support and I get everything emailed about our support etc.

I have 2fa enabled on my account, is there a way to skip/disable the third step where I have to enter a code from an email? It's already redundant with 2fa. Plus, the runaround of "enter your email, enter your password, get email, enter the code, oops your password is wrong!" is irritating enough :) It just seems unnecessarily difficult.

I'm getting the error message "No video with supported format and MIME type found" with mp3 files at https://www.gatherthepeople.org/test/styled-7/page-3/ when using Firefox 123.0 on my M1 (ARM) iMac running OS 14.3.1; when using Firefox 123.0 on my M1 (ARM) MacBook Air running OS 14.3.1; when using Firefox 123.0 on Win 11;and when using Firefox 115.8 on my Intel MacBook Pro running OS 10.14.6.

The same mp3 files (https://www.gatherthepeople.org/test/styled-7/page-3) play without any problem with Chrome and Safari on the Mac and with Edge on Win 11 .

Every time I quit FF, FF crashes, or my Mac crashes, my bookmarks either disappear entirely, or the toolbar bookmarks and/or my "Other Bookmarks" folder disappear while leaving my main "Bookmarks Menu" bookmarks. When I tried to restore from json backups, I discovered that my last one seems to be from last October. So I used Time Machine to restore my FF user profile from March 1. This works, but then I go through the cycle I just described above again ... and again. New backups of my Mac do not hold onto the bookmarks when I restore FF user profiles made after March 1.

When I try to manually back up my bookmarks or export my bookmarks to an HTML file from inside the "Manage Bookmarks" window, everything seems to work, but then when I go looking for the file I supposedly created (e.g. bookmarks-2024-03-04.json), no such file exists in the location where I saved it and searching for a file with "bookmarks" in its name yields only bookmarks from other browsers and the old bookmark backups from last October and earlier.

Since about two days ago firefox on both my PC and laptop has been trying to connect to a random website called ponf.linkedin.com that I have no idea where it came out of.

I have no clue why this was but I reset both browsers on both devices + reinstalled windows 11 on my main PC and it only continues happening on my PC now, i've managed to replicate the behaviour by resetting the browser and everytime that happens firefox attempts to connect to this website even though bitdefender blocks it and nothing comes up, no popup or anything as if its just in the shadows.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be and what I should do? any help is appreciated thanks.
