Firefox Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error when ever I add my Ubuntu with Firefox 4 b10 Pre Minefield
Sync works great but as soon as I add my Ubuntu machine I get the Sync Error and the only way to get out of the problem is to close the account on the Ubuntu machine and set up the account again on the Macs. I have one iMac, one Macbook Pro and one iPhone that all work with Sync. Only the Ubuntu machine with Firefox 4 b10 Pre Minefield causes the problem. All other machines also have Firefox 4 B9.

After speaking to support and going through the following steps I was able to get it working. 1. go to this URL and delete your account https://services.mozilla.com/delete-account/ you will lose all info. 2. set up a new account using the email you just deleted. 3. Sync the account. 4. Set up next computer but don't sync yet. 5. Go to preferences and click Sync then manage account. 6. Click "Reset Sync" 7. Choose to sync with with data on server This is important 8. Now check other computer to see if it syncs. If it does proceed and repeat steps 4-8 on each computer. Good luck. If the problem happens again just reset sync again in Preferences and that should fix it. I think there are a few bugs left to iron out.

Well, I did all that joelw135 suggested and it seemed to work OK to upload my bookmarks from my XP desktop running FF 4.0b9. I then successfully added my Vista laptop running FF 3.6.13 to the new acct & synced the bookmarks. However, now I'm getting the "Unknown" error again on the XP; there are only these 2 machines on the new acct, no Ubuntu. I wondered whether there might be an issue with the size of my bookmark file (it was 1.2MB per a previous check). However, now I get an error message "Could not retrieve quota information" when I try to view quota on the FF 4.0b9 machine.

You don't need to delete your account, just go to the page in the post previous to this one, log in and click "Clear your Sync data". Then sync again and all should be well.
I want to the account services URL above and it would not let me log in. I requested a password reset and changed my password. I want to the account services URL above and I still got the error "Unable To Login".
Can an account be "locked/disabled" ?
LOL, it now lets me in. I tried purging the data and I got "We had a problem purging the data from your account. Please try again later."
I think the server may just be hosed......
