Start-up page--not homepage-- is strangely set to "user.com."
The first tab that is displayed upon starting up Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 is "user.com," a website that I have no recollection of visiting before, much less opting for it to be my start-up page. How did this happen? It doesn't seem to be tied to a specific profile, either, as it loaded consistently between Firefox profiles (although not on Firefox 3).

Did you check the Target field in the Firefox Desktop shortcut (right-click context menu: Properties) ?

about:home - a "local" Google / Firefox search page is the default Homepage in the Firefox 4.0 betas
Check your homepage setting.

As mentioned in the title, this site is distinct from my homepage (chrome://speeddial/content/speeddial.xul). The home button brings me to the desired page (which is also displayed upon startup), but a different site is also being loaded "only" on startup.

Thanks it did turn out to be an issue with the Target. I had it set to
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P Default User -no-remote
Placing quotes around Default User (profile name) did the trick. Thanks for the help.
You're welcome
I have a similar problem, but I'm not as savvy as most people on here, so I need some help. When I click on a website from an email in Thunderbird, it sets this website as my start up page one time only - after the first time opening Firefox during that session, it reverts to opening my home page. After the computer sleeps or is restarted, it reverts BACK to the website opened in Thunderbird one time only. How can I get this to stop happening? All I want is for my home page to open every time I start Firefox.
It looks to me that you have your browser set to restore your last session's tabs upon startup. Open the Options window in Firefox. Under the General tab (the first one), find the group that says Startup. There should be a drop-down menu that says "When Firefox starts:". Select "Show My Homepage".
Nope - that was already set to "Show my home page". I set it to "Show a blank page", closed it, and reset to "Show my home page". I'll have to let it go to sleep to test if this works. Thanks for the response.
BTW, I never had this problem with Outlook - it was only when I switched to Thunderbird that this started happening.
