every tab seems to get its own window is this by design or a bug?
it seems that every single tab gets its own unique window, now i feel that this is inefficient as well as making being organized out side of firefox a harder task. Since when you close any of the windows that hold 1 tab it removes it from the master window and the group menu.
Now hopefully this is just a bug caused by the new as well as great packaged feature that the grouping tool is.

You can try to change some browser.taskbar.*enable prefs on the about:config page to false.
I'm not on Windows 7 , so I don't know what effect they have.

Have you,by any chance,turned on Sticky Keys?:http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:zbFkhOKLfb8J:support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php%3Flocale%3Dhr%26comments_parentId%3D199925%26forumId%3D1+firefox+always+opens+links+in+a+new+window&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk
if that is the case,in short :"Just hit Shift five times and click on "cancel" when the diagnostic box pops up. Then I think everything should work just fine!" from the above thread.

I seem to have fixed it on mine by turning off "Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar"
For the record on Firefox 4 the about:config preference is browser.taskbar.previews.enable.
