After opening Ffox I noticed all my profiles had been lost, only the usual opening page remains. Looking after firefox.exe -P, I noticed they remained there as files, but the browser for some reason cannot use them. How am i to do to get my profiles back? The same with 4.0 betas & 3.6.10. Please do help. Thanks.

Are the profile folders still physically present on your hard drive?

Yes, they are, Firefox just cannot find them. I temporarily solved the problem by creating a new profile and copying there the files and folders from an earlier profile. Firefox still cannot find the earlier profiles. If I search 'firefox.exe -P' I get 'default' and the new profile, but 'default', though it exists as files, brings only Ffox update page without anything from the default profile. The new profile works now as I explained. What does this mean, concerning the profile files: 'None of these files should be write-protected' (In the article)? They are read-only which cannot be changed. Does it matter?
