After installing 4.0b5 i noticed that the Add A New Tab button is moved all the way to the right (right next to the panorama button) and is not right after the last opened tab. After opening enough tabs to fill out my url bar the Add A New Tab button suddenly went in a position that was right after the last opened tab. That effect lasted until i closed Firefox, after what the Add A New Tab button was again at the far right. Is this how it suppose to work or is it a bug ? Since i would do anything to have the Add A New Tab button right after my last opened tab is there a way to make it stay right after the last opened tab or ill have to wait for a another version ?

You can open a new tab with a double-click on empty space on the Tab bar. That New Tab is now a normal toolbar button and can be placed any where on a toolbar (Navigation/Menu/Bookmarks) or a different postion on the Tab bar (e.g. at the far left).

Sorry to bother u again but i cannot locate the option for the New Tab button position customization. Can u point out a path for me to get to that option ? And another thing is when i click on an empty space on the Tab bar my mozilla only 'Restores Down' or if its 'Restored Down' when double clicked it maximizes. Are you sure we are talking about the same version of the browser ? Cause i think these options are present in the 3.6.x builds.

Any further advice would be welcomed.

You need to double-click on empty space on the Tab bar.

You can also use "View > Toolbars > Customize" and drag the New Tab button to the left or onto another toolbar to make it stay visible. In the default position you only see it when there is no more empty space and the overflow scroll buttons appear on the Tab bar.

Ok let me make this clear with a few pictures. The first one represents my view of the main window when mozilla starts up. And there as you can see the + button ( add new tab button ) is stuck behind the horizontal scrolling trough tabs arrow. Even when i try to customize the buttons position i cant make it to follow the last opened tab. In the second picture you can see that the + ( add new tab button ) follows the last opened tab after i opened a number of new tabs and the horizontal scrolling arrows just went away and the add new tab button 'became free' and started following the last opened tab. And in the third picture you can see the add new tab button is still following the last opened tab after closing the rest of the tabs and the horizontal scrolling arrows are still missing as they should when i have only 1 or couple of tabs opened. If i open more tabs on the tab bar the arrows would come back for you to scroll trough tabs with them but the add new tab button would continue to follow the last opened tab after the first time the scrolling arrows went away. So i wonder if this is a bug for the Scrolling Arrows showing all the time and even on start up and not just when there are multiple tabs opened so u can actually scroll trough tabs with them or its something else ?

I tried to move the '+' to where you suggested and removing the '>' (scrolling trough tabs arrow) but it wouldnt allow me. As you can in the picture the '+' (add new tab button) is limited to moving ONLY in that position i really want it to go. I can place it just about in any other place i want it but not there. I get that seperator like line (the red arrow pointing at it at the picture) limiting the movement and you can see im trying to drag the '+' button marked in the red square box but with no success. Any further help would be appreciated.

Can someone please give more feedback about this problem. Even with beta 7 now the problem still persists. Any idea that might be helpful is welcomed.

Where do you want the New Tab button to appear (left, far right or before the list all tabs cq panorama or after the last tab) and in what order should the other buttons on the tab bar appear?

You can move the New Tab button at the right via code in userChrome.css below the @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#new-tab-button {visibility:visible!important;}
.tabs-newtab-button{visibility:hidden!important;}

I want it to appear right after the last open tab. The positioning in other places except that one is no problem.

I have the same problem. How come this bug still appears in beta 8?

You can try uninstalling the browser completly with the deletion of the settings too. I uninstalled the default way only and after installing Beta 8 the problem is no longer present. Cant think of any other way to help you mate. Cheers !

I have found what causes the "Open a new tab" toolbar button to appear at the right: Internet Download Manager's (IDM) add-on is not compatible with Firefox 4. Disabling the add-on and also remove integration in IDM for Firefox will solve the problem with the toolbar button appearance. However, I'm not satisfied since I need the IDM add-on in order to download things...

I have determined that this is caused by more than just one extension - so either there's a lot of extensions abusing the way FF4 is supposed to work, or FF4 has a bug. But I have also observed this 'problem' with Google Toolbar and Personas Plus, just enabling/disabling the extension will cause the button location and layout to shift.

Okay, all the replies above seem a little too complicated. Instead of adding files, or re-installing, go to view>Toolbars>Customize, and from there, put the new tab button on the far left, pas the tabs, and put a flexible space between the far right and the tabs. Then, put the new tab button between the flexible space and the tab. When you click done, it should be fixed.

forkin' agreed. did they think they'd be cool or something when they change position? it is absolutely pointless and only bothersome for the long term legacy users. really- annoying and pointless

It is quite annoying that the blank tab to open a new tab has disappeared yet again. You cannot double-click in the empty area to the right of existing tabs if the browser is full-screen --- this results in browser changing from full-screen to window.

Placing the new tab button all the way over to the right side is frustrating when your screen is wide ( mine is 1680px ).

Developers: Please stop taking away my blank (new) tab.
