Hi darthlotus,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with the sound on your ZTE Open C device with Firefox OS. Unfortunately, issues with the sound as you describe, are usually due to a hardware problem - failed connectors, or other damage, etc.

In this case, you would need to contact the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of your device to request further support. You may access ZTE's support page in the following link:

In the meantime, you may also attempt a soft reset of the phone.

  1. Take the back cover of the phone off.
  2. Take the battery out.
  3. Take the SIM card and microSD card out (if applicable).
  4. Wait 10 seconds.
  5. Put the SIM card and microSD card back in (if applicable).
  6. Put the battery back in.
  7. Put the back cover back on.
  8. Turn the device on.
  9. Check if the issue you were having is still present.

Please report back to us if this solved your problem! If the issue still occurs, please reply to this message with the following information:

  • What is the model of your phone? (ZTE Open, LG Fireweb or Alcatel OneTouch Fire)
  • What is the OS version found in the Device Information page? Please visit this link if you need help finding the Build ID of your phone.
  • Please provide the exact steps to reproduce the issue you are encountering.
  • Who is your current cell phone carrier?
  • How often do you encounter this issue?

Please be sure to include as much detail as possible, including any websites that may exhibit this issue, and any error messages that you may be receiving, exactly as they appear. This will ensure that we will have all the information needed to investigate into this. Thank you for your help and we look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

- Ralph

hi Ralph, thanks for your response. softboot was no good. i'm in australia, and phone is from hong kong ebay, so the america link is no good, but i get the drift, and went to global support.

model: ZTE Open C OS was firefox 1.3 or 1.4 not sure, but was latest build i swapped this weekend to android kitkat 4.4.2

steps to get issue: turn on phone- hisses, but will stop if left allow touch phone, (ie wake it up, use apps or functions) activate anything with sound (phone, music, ect also txt) {actually first started with txt - would hiss}

initially encountered txt hissing about two weeks from start of use. about a week later lost sound altogether.

no error messages ect everything works fine except speaker (installing android did give sound back for about 5min, before sound went and hissing returned)
