Firefox for iOS version 146 introduces a new, privacy-first translation feature that lets you translate supported websites into your device's language. Translation happens directly on your device; no data is sent to the cloud, so your browsing remains private.

Firefox will detect if a page is in one of these languages and offer a simple one-tap option to translate it into the language set on your device.

Use the translation toolbar

1. Open Firefox on your iPhone or iPad and visit a webpage.
2. If Firefox detects a different language, a translation banner will appear at the bottom of the screen.

   

3. Tap the Translate icon to convert the page into your preferred language.

   

4. To show the original page again, tap the Translate icon again.

Customize translation settings

You can control how and when Firefox offers to translate webpages.

1. Tap the menu icon (three dots) at the bottom of the screen.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Tap Translation under General.

   

4. From here, you can enable or disable automatic translation prompts.

   

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t I see the Translate button?

The feature is available starting in Firefox for iOS version 146. Update your app from the App Store if you don’t see it.

Can I choose which language to translate into?

Not yet. For now, Firefox for iOS will only translate into the current device language.

Can I translate part of a page?

No. Firefox currently translates the entire webpage.

Can I undo the translation?

Yes. Tap the Translate icon again to revert to the original language.
