When Firefox for iOS crashes, it can send a crash report to Mozilla and Apple’s App Store to help identify and fix bugs.

This article explains what’s included in a crash report, how Mozilla uses it, and how you can manage the setting to automatically send crash reports.

What’s included in a crash report?

Crash reports contain technical information to help Mozilla and Apple identify and fix problems. They include:

  • App data:
    • App version
    • Crash stack trace (technical details about the code running at the time of the crash)
  • Device data:
    • Device model (for example, iPhone 15 Pro Max)
    • iOS version and connection type (Wi-Fi or cellular)
    • Screen resolution, available storage and architecture (for example, arm64e)
  • System context:
    • UTC timestamps
Important: Crash reports sent from Firefox for iOS do not include information like your browsing history, search queries or saved passwords.

Where are crash reports sent?

Firefox for iOS sends crash reports to:

  • Mozilla via Sentry: This helps Firefox engineers analyze and prioritize fixes.
  • Apple’s App Store: As required by Apple, crash reports are submitted to Apple’s servers for app diagnostics.

How does Mozilla use crash reports?

Mozilla uses crash reports to fix bugs by understanding what caused the crash and prioritizing fixes, improve reliability by identifying trends to make Firefox more stable, and enhance user experience by ensuring future updates are less likely to crash. These reports are processed through Sentry, a third-party crash analytics service.

How to manage crash report settings

Disable or re-enable automatic crash reports

Crash reports are automatically sent by default in Firefox for iOS. You can turn them off or re-enable them at any time.

  1. Open Firefox and tap the menu button ≡ at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Support section.
  4. Toggle the Automatically Send Crash Reports option on or off.

If automatic crash reports are disabled

If you turn off automatic crash reporting on iOS, Firefox won’t prompt you after a crash, and no reports will be sent.
