There are regular Community Calls that explore many open badges topics, including new and ongoing research projects related to badges, and the development of badge systems across numerous sectors:

The Badges for Lifelong Learning Competition was supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, with additional support from the Gates Foundation and in partnership with Mozilla.
