I'm aware (e.g. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1277401) of how to toggle whether the message window stays open (opening the next message) when an email is moved or deleted. But I would dearly love for it to happen only sometimes.

Specifically, when a new message comes in, I want to read it, usually move or delete it, then read the next new message, if there is one. But if the next message is an old one, I don't want to keep having it shown to me. I keep my inbox fairly tidy, but I'm getting sick of seeing that message from a year ago that doesn't have a better place to be.

So, after moving or deleting a message, if there is an adjacent unread message, keep the window open. Otherwise, close it.

If there's an unread message somewhere else in the folder, don't jump to that one. Trust that I've left it unread for a good reason, and don't want to now constantly get shown it, and also have to remember to mark is as unread again.

If it's easier to look for other unread emails based on dates, a few days (enough to span a long weekend, for example) would probably be enough, a week at the most. Or make that number user-configurable.

I used to be able to set message filters to play a sound of my choosing after a message was filtered into a folder (a chime so i know when mail from a client arrives). For a while it was not an option, so I used various extensions that eventually were no longer supported (ToneQuilla, Mailbox Alert, FiltaQuilla, Soundmail). I suspect that the last one may have corrupted my Thunderbird and caused my recent issues, so I removed it (and now I have no extensions installed). Sound Mail is the only extension I can find that plays a sound for filtered mail only.

Meanwhile, the "Play Sound" option has appeared again in v155.0.1, but with no choice of sound file, and nothing plays. It's not a sound issue; other sounds play in other programs, and the normal new mail sound plays when I enable it (but I don't want sound notifications for all mail, just client mail).

Any solutions?

On early version of Thunderbird on Windows 7 I see the mesage window below the header window. I would like to see the same on the later version on Windows 10 and 11. So far I've been unable to find a control to do that.

I have been struggling to find some messages specific to specific dates and spend an awful amount of time tryomh yo access the correct one.

The solution proposed is a bit unclear to me, as it refers to "future folders". I need to unthread all my messages. Is this possible?

PS The only version number i could find was for Firefox. There does not seem to be one for Thunderbird.

Enclosed are jpg copies of the current sets of filters failures in my TB email program.

TB Error0 shows the 6 emails that have arrived and are placed in the INBOX. However, each of these has a corresponding filter set up to move them upon arrival to a separate subject email mailbox.

Note: If I highlight the INBOX and then go to Tools > Run Filters On Folder ... all of these INBOX email messages will be correctly filtered and moved to their respective email mailbox, BUT each of them is shown as having been "read" and unless you pay close attention, you may not know where these INBOX emails were sent.

I am also enclosing TB Error1 & 2 that show the last couple of days message filtering errors.

I can find nothing wrong with how each of these filters are set up, yet they seem to consistently fail to operate when new emails arrive.

Note one of them is for incoming emails from ... schiffsovereign.com. I have edited this filter repeatedly, even deleted it and re-input the information. Yet the filter never takes hold and does what it is designed to do. I am enclosing a jpg of that specific filter as TB Error3

I am looking for suggestions on how to fix this problem.

I have Win11, Thunderbird Windows MSIX packagethunderbird-MSIX - 1.0, and several accounts (The box below won't take anything past "Thunderbird Window.")

I'm looking for some way to make a different ring either for one of the accounts or for certain domains or for a subfolder -- any way that I'll know when something comes in from specific domains. The special ring(s) can be for each of the two domains or both of them. Can that be done?

154.0 (64-bit) on Windows 11

My filters are broken in Thunderbird. I have deleted and recreated some to no avail.

I moved some folders from Local to under my inbox and it said it would update the filters automatically, but noticed it didn't do this. Looking at the Filter Rules it just left either the first or second column of Perform these actions under the Filter Rules empty rather than updating them. I tried moving the folders back to see if the filters would then work, but it's a mixed bag. Some filter properly and others only go under say Newsletters, but don't filter into Newsletters > Adobe for example. Others just sit in the inbox. I've tried moving some rules to the top of the list hoping that'd give them priority to be run first, but it hasn't helped. I have a lot of filters setup to help me track newsletters, classes, meetings, job applications, etc. I've missed some responses for a couple of days because of this. Any suggestions?

I have "Allow remote content in messages" turned off. However I receive many messages for which I wish to allow it for that message. I do so and it works fine.

What I would like to be able to do is to have TB learn the message senders for whom I have allowed remote content so I don't have to click it every time. Is this a feature that is available that I am missing, or is it just not possible?

If not possible, please advise as I will submit for an enhancement.

This just started today. I am seeing question marks between the sentences in my messages. I had this issue a number of years ago and do not remember the fix. I am running the latest version on my Windows 7 desktop. It is just the new messages not the older ones in file.

Anyone remember the fix?

How can I specify which Thunderbird account is used when MAILTO is used in html? I know I can change the account to what I want after the new message window comes up but I always forget.

How do I make (set) TB to open a new window NOT a tab? It continues to open tabs which I don't like nor see, thereby I close TB not the tab I didn't notice (nor use)

Every time I start TB on Windows 10, I am seeing "Compact folders". The prompt is offering to save around 310MB, but no matter how many times I select COMPACT NOW, I still get the prompt next time.

I have tried:

 - compact all folders in all accounts
 - Repair Folders in all accounts, all folders (which took a while! I have 10 email accounts)
 - deleting global-messages-db.sqlite

Any ideas on how to resolve this would be appreciated. Email is still working fine, I am just trying to get rid of the never ending prompt.

The edit tool bar to set bold, text color and text sze under the "+ new message" is missing. How do I fix?

When I used to click on Minimize, it would minimize to the system area down by the clock. Now it minimizes to the taskbar, something that it's never done before. When I clicked the X, it would close out the program completely. Now it minimizes the program down to the system area. Is this a bug, or is this the way you people do things now?

Using the system color theme, where my Windows 10 system is set to the dark color theme, I see Thunderbird 153+ Meadow showing popup menus with weird dark teal background. The standard Window menus (File, Edit, ..., Help) appear to use slightly different background, which still doesn't match my system color. Is there a setting I'm missing to have these menus shown with my system dark color theme (like current Fx, and previous Tb versions)?

I'm using my system color accent setting, but I'm seeing changing this Tb setting doesn't seem to affect the menus background.

I've also noticed I'm not seeing this on Windows 11 – the menus background is fine, although on Windows 11 I'm still noticing this teal "accent" appearing in certain elements of the popup menus, f.e. the color of menu item keyboard shortcuts.

I'm currently on Thunderbird 155 and previously I just had one email account configured and cards view was working fine. However, after adding an additional email account (gmail), which displays fine, my original account is now showing my name in the cards view, instead of the sender. I've tried clearing the cache, repairing the inbox, but that didn't fix it. If I switch to table view its fine, I see the column for "From", although the new account displayed "Correspondents" instead of From, but I switched them to using From to make them consistent. Still not showing correctly for the original account.

Notification requests I would like Thunderbird to 1) notify me that I have received new email(s) even before I have opened Thunderbird. Partly by changing the icon on the taskbar and partly by playing a sound. And 2) also retrieve the emails that are there automatically when I open Thunderbird. Is that possible? How do I do that? My folders are in disarray and it is cutting into my productivity to file emails. I have tried but it in settings but it doesn't work. Many are in alpha order but there are 2 different two different sections of the same name, and some odd files end up in an alphabetized section.

For instance there are 2 different ZBV sections with other stray folders in the same area that should be in there own alpha folder area. It's a mess to find the right folder. I have to scroll up and own and look for the folder I need to file in. I would be happy to donate, and i have in the past, but I really need this to get fixed. Please, please, please...
