No. I have just installed the addon you suggested. Absolutely nothing happens.

yes, the addon will have no visible impact - it will install, revert some settings and then uninstall again. however does it make any difference when you restart the browser once now?

otherwise could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

I have just restarted Firefox as suggested. Now nothing happens at all! I am clicking on the tool bar at the bottom of the page and I can't even see what addons I have. Firefox has completely frozen-I can't do anything at all. I have to go onto another browser (that isn't installed) such as Google, to get anywhere. If this carries on, I will have to uninstall Firefox and go for another browser. I regularly get spam and I type in the IP address to see where the spam originated-but when I type the IP adress, Firefox will not repsond.

I will have to do as you suggest tommorow. The time is 2200 British Summer Time at my location and I do the day shift at work. I am up around 0500 to get to work. Thank you for your help and I will tty again.

A few notes for the morning:

(1) If you used the Reset Firefox feature, a folder will have appeared on your desktop named Old Firefox Data. Please retain that folder so you can revert your Reset if needed.

(2) I don't know why you would intentionally open the IP addresses of servers that have demonstrated their untrustworthiness by relaying spam to you. If you want to find out who controls a server, you can look it up on one of the regional registries for IP addresses:

• RIPE (for Europe): http://www.ripe.net/ (RIPE Database search box mid-page)
• ARIN (for North America): https://www.arin.net/ (Search WHOIS upper right)
• APNIC (for Asia): http://www.apnic.net/ (Whois Search to the right of the image)

I don't know how to use the Reset Firefox feature. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox as was suggested but this has not rectified the situation. If I put in a search parameter in the search box which is displayed on the Firefox homescreen, nothing happens. I don't open spam emails-all I do is look at the message source to find the IP address. I then enter the IP address in the search box on Firefox...but I can't as nothing happens. I then use another browser to find out where thespam came from. Pleaser advise as to how I can use the Reset Firefox feature. Time of message 2053 BST.

close all open firefox windows, then press the shift key while you launch firefox again. this way you should get a dialog which offers to reset firefox.
