Ever since I installed v7, it's been a nightmare. It takes a very long time to start, it takes a very long time to shut down, it takes a very long time to load a page if it ever does and I get Java error messages. It's slower than v6 and that version was already slow and a memory hog. I am very disappointed and want to go back to something that was much more stable than this.

I have the same issue with Firefox 7.0.1 with my Zotac Geforce GTX460 SE, every so often my nvidia display driver will crash and recover when using using Firfox 7.0.1. first off i thought it may of been the overclock on my gpu, but seeing as everyone else is having the same problem with Firfox 7 crashing it cant be my overclock. Hope Mozilla rectifies the problem soon, even had a crash while writing this post very annoying arghhhhhh

Edit: I'd now suggest the better (and more secure) solution is to try roll 'forward' to a Beta or Nightly Build. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/ I'm on Aurora 9.0a2 and my whole system is back up running with full speed and stability.

Original Answer: Download it from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ and install it. Don't bother uninstalling 7, just make sure its closed and install 6 or 5 or whatever.

Despite all troubleshooting efforts, and advice not to rollback, this rollback action has fixed all of the issues, (system and memory hangs and crashes), on my system. I'm on v5 and my whole system is back up running with full speed and stability, I know my system extremely well and deeply. Firefox v7 (all releases) was the 'only' issue affecting it. All of my add-ons and personal settings in Firefox still work.

edit: Do not download from random unofficial download sites to be safe.

Starting with the release of Firefox 7, the previous versions of Firefox (4.0.x, 5.0.x, 6.0.x) are no longer maintained with Security and Stability updates. Firefox 3.6 is the last previous Firefox version that is still being maintained.

Firefox versions 4.0.x 5.0.x contain Security vulnerabilities that are known and could be exploited by some websites to gain unauthorized access to information or to disrupt critical processing. Only the Latest version 7.0.1 and an Older version 3.6.23 of Firefox are secure against these known vulnerabilities.

Threats found in Firefox 6 and safeguarded in Firefox 7:

Warning: Firefox 3.6 will only be maintained with security and stability updates for a short period of time.

Download Firefox 3.6 from:

-> Installing Firefox

Check and tell if its working.
