Firefox doesn't remember my user ID and password in several websites. 3.6.9, cookies enabled, worked fine until last week.

especially annoying on forums, since if you are active there, you need the retype user ID and password everytime.

Did you create an allow exception for those websites?

Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.

  1. Macromedia Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 10.1
  2. Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_18 for Mozilla browsers

Update the Java plugin to the latest version.

i had that java update sitting here ready to install. yay for me! updated the shockwave thing too. thanks!

i should be more specific here. these userID/password combos were in websites that used cookies, that predate firefox "remembering" passwords for you.

RE:Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions" i can't find "cookies" under privacy except to remove them. there are "exceptions" under privacy, and that's where the firefox version of passwords are kept. but that part is working fine. it's the cookie version that's decided to break.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.

You can rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Profile Folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

found those hidden files, didn't appear corrupt, but did a name change anyway. the problem appears to be a hardcoded expiry date in the cookie generated by the fourm software, and not my own macchina. theres 3 forums i visit with the same software.

if i find anything fireox related i will reply again.

Maybe check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
