I despise the Bookmarks sidebar. It's a complete waste of screen space. Why is there no simple way to block it from opening in every new window?

Beats me. Make an easy to set option that allow/prevent the Sidebar from opening.

Once you close it in all the open windows (Ctrl+B in each window, or use its close button), it shouldn't appear in any new windows until you open it again. That's not working as expected?

I can't think of a way to block the sidebar from opening if a menu command, toolbar button, or keyboard shortcut triggers it. Maybe someone else has an idea.

Thank you, jscher2000. That seemingly undocumented trick works just as you described.

Now my only complaint is that I don't like to rely on seemingly undocumented tricks to make a program work the way I want. Perhaps Sidebar display could be controlled on the "Customize Firefox" page in the same fashion as The title, Menu, and Bookmark bars.

Developers, thanks for considering this approach!
