FIREFOX HANGS WHEN I RETURN TO A TAB PREVIOUSLY OPENED.
I find that often when I leave a tab running an application, eg. gmail, open another tab, work with it for a bit, and then return to the previous tab, theoretically still open, just inactive, Firefox hangs. The only way to get it to stop is to delete the tab and reload the application, again eg. gmail. I am on an iMac running EL CAPITAN version 10.11.6. Recently reinstalled Firefox after using Opera and then Safari for many months.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
