I've looked through a few previous posts but there are no answers. I got off of Chrome today and each time I do I realize why I go back to Chrome. This back button will not go back after many mashes unless I reload the page a time or two which is annoying. I don't want to have any dealings with google but this would do it.

I've read that I need a fresh reinstall. I just downloaded the browser once again. How has something this simple not been fixed after all of this time?

I guess I'll ask once more. How do I correct this? Please no tech jargon. Simple steps. I appreciate it.

Tom

Hi, it is called file corruption and that is why you should always backup your data. As to why you have continual issues with the back button I can not say. Running a cleaner program like ccleaner can do it.

What you can do is when you download use the full version installer :

Then there is the Profile. Which is where all preferences, bookmarks, passwords are and that can get a glitch also.

Everyone just uses the X to close Firefox but the proper way is to use Menu --. Exit or File --Exit

Try this for a change please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st:

If you right-click the "Back" button you'll get a context menu which gives you up to 4 or 5 "Backs" to select from; "mash" the lowest one and then do that again to get the 4 or 5 before that if you want to "go back" more than that. IOW, "repeat as necessary".

I think there is a hidden pref to increase the number of "Backs" displayed in the context menu, but I don't use the "Back" button more for more than 3 or 4 pages "Back" and don't have that pref documented. I mostly always open a new Tab rather than open a link in the same tab and then close the tab when I am done reading or viewing what I wanted to see. I bet I use Undo Closed Tab a lot more than I "go back" from the Tab-strip context menu.
