This is a tiny annoying issue we are facing with Firefox, it is hard even to describe.

When a pop up window is open with "window.open" and it is not maximized all context menus are open in wrong position, like the image attached.

If I maximize the window, menu opens at the right position, and after that, if I restore, menus continues to open at the right place.

I'm running Firefox 52.5.3 (64-bit) on Linux and this issue happens even in a brand new version of Firefox.

We need some help to debug it or even better, how to solve it ;)

Thanks.

Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

If I read your question right, Firefox has always worked like that when it comes to pop up windows opened with web page "window.open" commands. Screenshot leaves a bit to the imagination as to the "big picture" though, so my 'read' might be off a bit.

But, the location that the Contextual Menu opens is 'locked' to what that menu is being opened from, not the full browser window size; with the exception of cases where a "ton" of many items were added via installed extensions. But as of Firefox 57 that shouldn't be the case any longer. Extension use of the Context Menu for new items seems to be drastically cut back; or may be that is because I "lost" so many Legacy extensions.

That "locked to the cursor" goes back to the days of Firefox 1.0 / 1.5 when users were installing so damn many extensions that the Contextual Menu might have as many as 25 menu items added. The "fix" was to let it "float up" as needed to let the whole menu appear and not drop off the bottom of the screen when it was open low in the browser window.

I realize that your screenshot is "stock", or as installed, with nothing added via an extension; but that may be the base cause for what you are asking about. It won't align higher than where the cursor was sitting when the Context Menu was opened; unless the menu was so long that it wouldn't display completely, them it would get shifted up to fit the screen.

I never liked that happening, so in real old versions of Firefox I was using an Advanced JavaScript Options extension to provide a UI for easy access for the hidden "window.open" options. When that extension quit working as the Firefox UI was changed I started using these in a user.js file to set them automatically all at once upon creation of a new Profile.

user_pref("dom.disable_window_move_resize", true); user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.directories", true); user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.menubar", true); user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.personalbar", true); user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.scrollbars", true); user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.toolbar", true); http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file

Tinker with those preferences in about:config and see if you can come up with a suitable solution.

@Pkshadow

I made another screenshot to demonstrate that, even that warning about SSL is in a wrong position on a new window.

I did all tests and even in a fresh installation (I created a new user on my machine and ran firefox without any configuration) we are facing the same problem.

But, if I do a "Refresh" at about:support, it works as expected.

Since I don't have any extension installed, I tried then to restore all settings to our environment, and found that if I include this:

network.protocol-handler.expose.sip = false (or true)

Restart firefox, I get the error! :(

And I need that, to configure an application to run if I click on "sip:" links. I don't know if it is the right way to do that.

I'm doing something wrong here?

Thank you

@the-edmeister thank you, but change those settings have no effect on this problem.
