After hours of trying various methods and enlisting the aid of my son unsuccessfully, I cannot access Firefox from my start menu. Nothing happens at all though it appears to still exist. At the same time, my Edge browser works perfectly. I tried a number of trouble-shooting suggestions without effect and even if trying to upload an "updated version" a screen said Firefox was open and needed to be closed before I could proceed. However, I could see nothing. I am no computer expert by any means but I use Firefox for a specific purpose which is now unavailable and would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.4 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

There can be several reasons for this behavior.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Thanks, Fred. I believe I tried this yesterday and just tried again per your suggestion. Still no luck.

Is it that Firefox does not access the web or does not come up at all? Does the Firefox icon show up in your Task Bar?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks again for your interest, Fred. Everything I’ve done shows the file still exists, the icon is everywhere I look but Firefox is not accessing anything. I tried variations of your suggestion, as well as yours again, with no success. I even uploaded another version but the same “non-result.” I did NOT uninstall the old version. Very odd since Microsoft Edge works just fine. I’m really at a loss.
