Does that happen with Firefox safe mode? It could be an extension doing that.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

• Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

I have re-started Firefox in safe mode with Add-on disable and it did not solve the problem.

As well, I do have the hardware acceleration disabled to no avail.

I will now try booting the computer in safe mode to see what that does. I'll report back.

Rebooting Windows in safe mode improved things. All web pages seemed to load properly. Only problem I noticed was youtube videos would error out after a few seconds. But pages loaded as they should.

Does this provide any clue?

Check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

Fred, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, no joy. I went through the installed programs and nothing unexpected was installed.

The problem with youtube videos freezing has been going on for ages, the problem with Firefox freezing on ALL webpages just started a few days ago. Clearly some sort of update has occurred on my system and is causing this. I just don't know what it was.

Okay, with the computer in safe mode, you have fewer problems. So that means one of those programs is the issue. Can you post a list of your programs?

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• Microsoft Safety Scanner
• MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
• Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller

• Hitman Pro
• ESET Online Scanner

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Fred, I ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner. It did remove some potential problems, did didn't fix my Firefox page freeze issue.

At this point I've abandoned Firefix, and have reverted to IE.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

AdwCleaner was the trick. I deleted a bunch of things the other scans missed. Firefox now works correctly. Thank you so much for sticking with me through this!

hello don, can you provide the logfile of the adwcleaner scan - maybe it contains clues that will help other affected users. the file is usually located at c:\adwcleaner - in there look for the text file with the newest time stamp, open it, copy the contents of that file, paste it into a service like http://pastebin.mozilla.org/ and provide a link here....

I see several that can be suspects. But you should check what was removed. For example, you may want to restore NCH Software.
