I have received an HTML-formatted message, which arrived with a red background colour. When I reply or forward that message, the message composition window appears with the same red background colour, and with black text. The resulting black text on a red background is hard to read.

How can I change the background colour of the reply or forwarded message which I am composing? How can I override the background colour set by the sender in the original message?

Note that I am asking about the background colour of a message which was set by the sender. I am not asking about how to set the default colour of messages I compose from scratch. Nor am I asking about how to set the background colour of Thunderbird windows or UI elements.

Thank you in advance.

After Thunderbird just updated to Version 128.5.0esr today, now all my accounts are saying that the connection is refused. This is coming from three different email services that I have accounts on. I'm assuming it's not an issue with those servers as I can access them just fine with a different email client, and I didn't change any settings. Yesterday it worked, today it doesn't. Only thing that seems to have changed is Thunderbird got updated.

Some emails show a message body that's nothing but / separated groups of ASCII characters, as for example "FJ/OHS/U7R/R3A/NT4/R03/0QY/T1N/VRC/WJ3/J6E/YXK/I6K/WNA..." continued for several pages. These are generally (but I think not always) obvious spam - that one has subject "Try Semaglutide and join the millions of women losing weight fast." But not all obvious spam is shown that way.

Is this something that Thunderbird is doing, or is the gibberish the actual message? I've only bee using Thunderbird for a few months, and don't recall seeing anything like it with my previous email program (Opera). I'm using version 115.7.0 (64-bit) on OpenSUSE Linux.

I am receiving the following error message when downloading messages from AOL to Thunderbird. "The DELE command did not succeed. Error marking a message as deleted. Mail server pop.aol.com responded: Too many requests." Please could anyone help me download my messages? I have been away for a month, I have a lot of messages to download. Could that be causing the problem?

Hello, here’s the problem: I had / have 3 GMX mailboxes in Thunderbird on my PC. After I installed Thunderbird Mobile and spent several hours with it, I deleted all the mailboxes to import them again. Apparently, this also deleted all the mailboxes on GMX, as they are no longer visible there. I also can’t create new ones there, as the old ones seem to still be somewhere in the Background. In Thunderbird Mobile, I restored the mailboxes via import, but they are completely empty! Thunderbird Mobile has no connection to GMX. What can I do? I go to bed...

the geek squad copied all programs onto a new microsoft surface for my wife but did not ensure all software works as they don't want to access your passwords. when i go to set up thunderbird, i input the imap pw to the email server and first problem is that it doesn't remember the pw even though I ticked the box. second issue is that it is taking over an hour to open the folder inbox, then it downloaded 4 emails and went back to 'opening folder inbox'. clearly i am doing something wrong and would appreciate any help available from those wiser than i.

After updating to 128.4.4esr I can no longer send email - NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED. I can create a new message, hit Ctl-S to save and I get a dialog box of "Status: Creating mail message..." and a progress indicator that is at 100%. I also get an error of "Unable to save your messages as a draft. Sending of the message failed".

If I attempt to send and email I get the same creating mail message and an error dialog box saying "Sending of the message failed".

In the error console I see

  • Bulleted list itemSending failed; , exitCode=2152857621, originalMsgURI=imap-message://andrew@defaria.com/INBOX#67121
  • NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED: Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.createUnique]

I looked at my ~/.thunderbird directory and the permissions are 700. I'm on Ubuntu 24.04.

I have encountered the following issue about a year now .I have been using Thundebird some years now and I have created my contact list . Even though I have added in the address book all the contacts I needed and named them as I wanted. When I receive a mail the correspodent appears differently from what I have named the contact.Propably as the person sent me the email have named himself. The same applies in sent mails as well.No matter what I did ,it seems like the database from the address book is not linked to the mail database whatever I do. Please advise

Hi Thunderbird-Team, I am using Thunderbird 128.5.0esr (64-Bit) on Linux (openSUSE Leap 15.5). When I want to attach a file to a written e-mail the file-selection dialog does no longer offer a line-edit-control where I can copy-paste an absolute path to the attachment file. I always have to click through the full directory path in order to specify the file that should be attached. Is there any chance to input a file path via keyboard or just by mouse-paste? Kind regards, Ove

I've been using Thunderbird to handle my email accounts for a long time (years). My Gmail connection was misbehaving, so I deleted the account on Thunderbird, verified that everything was still there by using the google.com/gmail interface (which works fine), then tried to recreate (reconnect) the Gmail account in Thunderbird. Followed the routine "Set Up Another Account", "Email", entered a name, gmail address, and password, then "Continue". Thunderbird looks up a configuration, finds Gmail, and it all looks normal. Checking in "Configure manually", OAuth2 is there. Click "Done", and it begins "Checking password", and never comes back.........

I know the Gmail account and password are valid, because I can get mail directly from Google.....

I'm at a loss...any suggestions would be appreciated.
