Hello, I synced all my gmails to thunderbird (many). When I tried to archived some messages, I found they are in my main inbox. The all mail folder does not contain them. I am trying to restore allmail to contain everything. Thunderbird keeps crashing, it seems like it is crushed by the load of my messages. Further, the archived messages are now missing from my gmail account. Please help! Thank you, Steve

I have been trying to migrate all my accounts to maildir, but Export/Import doesn't work.

Even after I ensure that the old profile is backed up in another location and deleted from the previous path, and then I try "/mac path/thunderbird -P" and the first thing I do is set "maildir" as the storage for new accounts in settings.

After that, I imported (only accounts and settings) from the backed-up profile .zip, but the mail store type per account gets overridden by the old profile, it seems, and is set to "mbox" (uneditable).

Is there a way to retain the settings except for the mail store type? I am fine with entering every password again; I just hope to not have to do all the config again (settings for subscribe, junk, etc… and… what not) again for all those accounts.

Can I do it via prefs.js, etc.? If so, will I have to modify something in those files? What files will be needed?

Thunderbird has put itself into the system tray, even though I have it checked in settings not to.

At the same time, another email app which was there and is set to minimize into the system, Mailwasher, that I need to be there, isn't. I checked with that tech support, but they couldn't help. There is room for both.

Since the two software "events" occurred at the same time, it's too coincidental that one didn't affect the other. So I'm hoping someone has a suggestion to tell T-bird NOT to put itself in the system tray.

In Outlook it is possible to have the favorites fixed in top of the folder pane column. This is very handy when moving emails from the inbox to often used folders which fall outside the displayed part of the folder pane. (You don't have to scroll back if you want to display the content of the inbox). I cannot find a way how I could do this in Thunderbird. Is there a way to fix favorite folders in top of the folder pane?

This question was asked 10 years ago but I can't find where a fix was ever found for the latest version of TB. I would really like to keep the favorite folders in sight while scrolling down through the other folders I've created.

Is there an add-on for this? I searched without finding one.

I still get all my messages and everything seems to work correctly but when I open my inbox I get this message I have a huge amount of free disk space, and I empty my inbox and spam daily, so I don't understand this: "The folder on inbox ruthjh@gmail.com cannot be compacted because writing to inbox failed." The only problem that shows up is that occasionally I don't instantly get the subject line but keep the one I had clicked before.

I downloaded thunderbird on my android phone, and imported settings from my laptop. My personal gmail account has been working fine. However, my school microsoft online account has not been able to send emails. it can receive emails, but whenever I try to send an email, it just stays in outbox gives an error message:

Failed to send some messages Authentication unsuccessful [BL1PR13CA0340.namprd13.prod.outlook.com 2025-09-01T13:04:36.305Z 08DDE84F8D3B37FC]

or

Authentication failed Authentication failed for [my email]. Update your server settings.

Given that the smtp server settings are exactly the same as on my laptop since I imported from there, I don't know what to change to fix this issue.

I run TB 141.0-64 with Windows 11 and am on the Release Update Channel. I've had Spam sorting problems for about a year, through many TB updates, and many Windows updates.... I run SFC, and DISM, regularly.

The Spam difficulties are of two types: Many messages appear in my Inbox, are marked as Spam, but are not moved to my Junk folder, so, I move these to their Junk home manually. Also, many messages appear in my Inbox that are obviously Spam, but are not marked as such, and, of course are not moved to my Junk folder. For each of these, I click on my Junk button, and these messages jump over to their Junk home to meet their new friends. Often, messages of this second category, are identical to messages that have been properly moved to my Junk folder earlier.

Finally - The the Spam sorting problems I've described, are intermittent. I can sometimes go for many hours with my Spam tools working as they should. Then, the Spam sorting system fails again, as I have described.

Why is one continuous message thread displayed as two separate threads? The message in the attached image is a single thread made up of about ten messages between two people. In the Message List Pane the thread is broken into two threads, whereas in the Message Pane all the messages are displayed as one continuous thread.

Is there a why to display single threads in the Message List Pane?

Здравствуйте не могу удалить почту полностью хотя в Thunderbird она удалена и не показывается, постоянно всплывают какие то окна о тех почтах которых уже нет как это убрать

On Thunderbird 115.18.0 (64 bits) running on Ubuntu I have several imap accounts. One of them is showing a wrong normal of unread messages : currently when I check my inbox I have something like 2 or 3 unread messages and the counter shows 104 unread messages. How can I fix this ?

Witam! Bardzo proszę o pomoc. Po aktualizacji komputera w tym poczty , Thunderbird nie wczytuje klucza ..OpenPGP mam mnóstwo zapisanych wiadomości w szkicach niestety nie są możliwe do odczytania ...co w tej sytuacji ?

I want to switch to Thunderbird from Outlook (desktop). I'm following the procedure below but without sucess.

I'm on Windows 10. Outlook is set as the default e-mail app. Thunderbird is installed. Both Outlook and Thunderbird are set up with identical multiple profiles. I open one of the profiles in Thunderbird and go to Tools > Import and select "Import from Outlook". When I select the Outlook import line, an error message appears stating "! No profile found". (See image)

More info: Outlook (part of Office 2016) is a 32-bit install. Thunderbird is a 64 bit install. Outlook is set up as SMTP/POP3, whereas Thunderbird is (currently) set up as SMTP/IMAP.

I'd like to know what I'm not doing so I can move my Outlook to Thunderbird before transitioning to Win 11.

All suggestions that will help me move over to Thunderbird will be appreciated.

There is no options for Thunderbird automatic startup and go into system tray in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Can anyone show me how can I set Thunderbird to go to tray when I sign in? I am using Thunderbird version 142.

This has happened quite recently.

I receive messages and I can see from the icon on the status line how many have come in. However, there is no sound.

I have looked at Settings........ Incoming Mails.......... When new messages arrive.....

Play a Sound is ticked and I have chosen Default system sound and tested it on this screen.

Can you help please? In the simplest language possible...........

My Thunderbird program stopped receiving email messages 8/21/2025 and when selecting Get Messages, it hangs up on Checking Mail Server Capabilities and that's as far as it goes and no new messages are received.

My ISP's website IS receiving my email messages and I can read them there but I prefer reading and replying on Thunderbird instead of their website.

One solution on the forum suggested disabling STARTTLS. When I put that in the search bar in Settings it says it's sorry but it didn't find anything like that.

Hello! I have a calendar connected via DAVMail (Exchange Server 2019), everything works. But when I create an event in the calendar and start adding participants, autocomplete does not work (there is no list to choose from the address book).

I have an LDAP address book configured for Global Address List (GAL) exchange.

I also imported the address book to Cardbook via .vcf.

How do I set up autocomplete in the calendar? (When writing an email, autocomplete works)

After upgrading to the latest version of Thunderbird ( release 141.0), I noticed an issue in the message list window: the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom appears very close to the last visible email in the list (which is usually the most recent message, depending on the sort order). In some cases, the scrollbar even overlaps the subject line of that last email. This often makes it difficult or even impossible to click on the email, as the scrollbar covers a large portion of its title. This issue occurs when the "Quick Filter" feature is enabled. If I disable "Quick Filter," a proper space appears between the last email's title and the scrollbar, and the issue no longer occurs.
