This article explains how to use the Messages application on Firefox OS.
The Firefox OS Messages app lets you send and receive short text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messages. This article will get you up and running in no time.

= Opening The Messages application =
To open the Messages application, tap [[Image:sms app]].

After the Messages application has opened, your messages will be shown.
=Creating a new message=
To create a new message, tap [[Image:Editmessages]].
After you do this, you will see two fields:
* Recipient: Who you are sending the message to.
* Message: The message you are sending.

There are 2 ways to enter the recipient's information.
* Manually
* From your contacts
You can enter the phone number of the recipient manually into the recipient field.

You can also choose the recipient from your contacts by tapping [[Image:addcontact]].
In the message field, type the message you would like to send.

After you have finished typing your message, tap the [[Image:Sendbutton]] button to send it.
You will be taken to a thread that contains all messages between you and the recipient. Beside your sent messages you may see a spinning circle ([[Image:Sending Icon]]). The spinning circle lets you know that the message is being sent.
= Viewing new message notifications =
The following is a screenshot of the notification bar that is located at the top of the phone.

To see notifications for new messages, tap and hold onto the notification bar, drag it down, and then select the new message notification.
= Viewing Your Messages =
You can view your sent and received messages by tapping on [[Image:sms app]] to open the Messages application. From there, you will see your message history.

When creating a message, you can attach a photo, video or music file. To do this:

#Select the source of the file you want to send (Video, Wallpaper, Music or Gallery). Choose the Camera option to take a new photo or video.

When you receive a message, your phone will chime and display a notification at the top of the screen.
