Users in under served and overpriced internet service areas need a simple mechanism to avoid videos and other high bandwidth data from playing and downloading without express authorization, in Firefox. Auto playing videos results in often outrageous data charges in rural areas. The ability to control this needs to he relatively easy to access, as rural users are not typically tech savvy. Thank you for your kind attention, Mark

As per https://www.ghacks.net/2015/06/11/finally-mozilla-adds-working-html5-video-autoplay-blocking-to-firefox/

You can set media.autoplay.enabled to false in about:config to disable HTML5 player auto playing videos or ads that are HTML5.

For the Flash Plugin you can set it to Click to Activate in Addons manager. You then have to click on a lego or just video area for video to load. Sometimes on some sites however you may need to set the Flash Player to always activate and refresh that page to get video to load.

My Firefox setup automatically updates. This issue requires an intrinsic and readily available Firefox feature, rather than some hack or coded adjustment, for those in the know, but not the hoi polloi of users. I respectfully request that this feature be added to Firefox. It is an important and fiscally painful matter for those of us outside the inner circle.

Once each day, Firefox checks for its own updates, and it also checks the add-ons as well.

Many programs "phone home" checking for updates.

What you can do it tell these programs not to check for updates. But remember to make a manual check now and then on everything.

I seem to be able to navigate commercial sites without constant video popups. Thank you, Mark
