Is this malware, or is this page associated with Mozilla?

I'm glad you found what was causing the problem. Can you post the name of the extension that caused the problem, and mark that post as the solution so that users can quickly find out which extension to remove if they experience the same issue?
Unfortunately some extensions are known to cause disruptions to user's browsing experience. For example, see the article: Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page. At the end of the day, installing extensions is like installing any other application on your computer - be sure to get it from a trusted source and remove it quickly if it does something suspicious. There are other extensions to back up Firefox as well in case something irreparable does happen, see FEBE and OPIE.

I am not sure what that link is - does it happen every time you open a new link? If it was a one time thing, maybe it was just a link on the page you were on that is set to open in a new window/tab and you accidentally clicked on it?
If it happens with every new tab you open, you can change in your Firefox configuration:
- In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
- Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
- Search for browser.newtab.url and change its value by double clicking the row or right clicking the row and selecting Modify (or Reset)
To be on the safe side, you can run free antimalware scanners that will work alongside your existing antivirus:
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)

It happens every time I open the browser up-it loads the Firefox main page and then a second later that weird one comes up.
Could this have gotten into my registry?
I think I fixed it, I think it was from an addon I installed some time ago for looping webms, I removed it and it's gone now. I think it may have just been the content author's way of advertising his new work, but wow what a sketchy way to do it. I'd appreciate it if you guys looked into it, might be a security vulnerability that lets it be so disruptive.
