When trying to go to youtube, I get "oops something went wrong"

more options

This morning, I decided to delete one of my youtube channels that is associated with the same email account. I followed the instructions, but now when I try to go to youtube (to get to my main channel), I get an error that says" Oops Something went wrong". Seems no matte what I do in firefox, I can not get back there. So far I have done the following: Cleared cashe temporary files, and history in firefox, checked for updates in firefox, signed out of my google account, and back in. Shut down my pc and back on. None of these have helped. I went searching and could find no help, other than trying to log into youtube from a different browswer. I did so, and I can get on youtube from another browser, but I want to use firefox. Please help, and when I say help, please give it to me in simple terms that I can understand. I am old school, and I don't understand a lot of the new ways things are done. FYI, I use windows 11.

It's good to hear that a different browser works -- your channel is still up!! But as for Firefox...

If this problem is being caused by cookies or locally stored site data, then the site should work normally in a private/incognito window, which you can launch using Ctrl+Shift+P. Does that make any difference?

Are you using a proxy or VPN?

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose, make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website, data for that website will be saved once again.

Sigh, I guess I'm just getting old...LOL No matter where I go for help, the answers I read might as well be in greek. I can't even answer questions to those trying to help me.

I was just wondering if I should just uninstall Firefox and then reinstall it? If that at may be a possibility, is there a video that shows me what I should do first, and what to do after?

I have to admit, I'm scared to move at this point, as it seems anything I do creates another problem, probably because there's so much I don't understand.

Thanks again for any help.

Usually we don't recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox unless we suspect that the program files are corrupted. It's much more common for the problem to be driven by a cookie issue, or an add-on, rather than corrupted program files.

If you want to test a "clean" Firefox setup right now, here's how you do it without losing anything:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test your problem site(s).

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Test2023, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to Test2023 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.

Do the problem site(s) work any better in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Test2023 will remain available for future testing.)
