Please be patient with me. I'm trying hard to follow your directions. I'm 77 but fairly computer literate.

Before I was unable to find the image locations your provided.

This time your guidance was more helpful

or I was able to translate it better. TO DO THE METHOD AS SHOWN IN THE IMAGES I carefully went thru your top instruction, carefully looking at your latest image & wording. I finally found folderflags and installed the download. I unchecked drafts; Inbox is still checked. WHERE IS THE AUTO UPDATE ADDONS? The update addons automatically is checked I found the FolderFlags addon three dot icon on the right. I clicked on it and selected 'Manage' Under 'Details' tab the 'Allow automatic addons' has 'default' selected

I left the '3rd party Thunderbird update' checked to by-pass my computer. I wasn't sure if that's what you recommend?

It looks like this has fixed my problem?? I have been fretting about my ability to get this fixed. The FROM box lists the sender, not me. It doesn't say this is a draft and make me uncheck that box or give me multiple options. The format looks normal. The links on e-letters, bills, etc now work. I don't know what else to look for. I am SINCERELY GRATEFUL for your help & guidance. I'd buy you a steak next time you're in Denver. Now if I can only get more comfortable with this Support process. Sorry for the duplicate message :)

Are you saying incoming email which you open to read, looks like a draft or email you would be trying to write? There is no buttons like Reply, Forward, Archive, Junk, Delete, More

It is possible the folder has somehow got a 'Drafts' or 'Templates' flag applied. Do this: Please use this addon:

How to install addon:

If you download the xpi file - image below is a guide.

Once addon extension is installed and is visible in 'Menu app icon > Addons and Themes' > Extensions:

  • Right click on effected folder and select 'Properties'
  • Select the 'Flags' tab
  • uncheck any 'Draft' or 'Templates' flag that has been set, let me know what flags were set.
  • click on OK

I downloaded 3X. I clicked 'open file' ; it says it 'cannot be downloaded because it has not been verified.

re :I downloaded 3X. I clicked 'open file'

OK. What you say does not sound like you used the method as shown in the images. There are two ways to install an addon, so I've offered instructions for both below.

To do the method as shown in images:

  • Menu icon > Addons and Themes
  • Select 'Extensions' which has a jigsaw puzzle icon
  • In top search type: folderFlags and press 'Enter' key

A new tab opens showing a list and you will find 'FolderFlags' is probably top of the list.

  • Click on 'Add to Thunderbird'
  • You will get a pop up which asks you to add it, so click on 'Add'
  • It will then show another popup to say it is added, click on 'OK'

Now you can use it.

  • Right click on effected folder and select 'Properties'
  • Select the 'Flags' tab
  • uncheck any 'Draft' or 'Templates' flag that has been set, let me know what flags were set.
  • click on OK

Alternative Method: You may have used this method... Go to this link and it opens in browser:

Click on 'Download Now'

It downloads to your computer and is usually auto put into the 'Downloads' folder as an .xpi file In Thunderbird:

  • Menu icon > Addons and Themes
  • Select 'Extensions' which has a jigsaw puzzle icon

Top right is a gear wheel icon - click on it to see drop down options. Click on 'Install Addon from file'

It will open a new window - see image below Locate the 'Downloads' folder to see the 'folderflags-1.5.1-tb.xpi' file you downloaded. Select the file so it shows in the 'Filename' at bottom of window and click on 'Open' A pop up appears asking you to click on 'Add' then another pop up says it was added and you click on 'OK'

Now you use the addon as directed previously.

Where is the auto update addons? In the 'Addons and Themes' - Extensions .... Top right is a gear wheel icon - click on it to see drop down options. The 'Update addons automatically' should already be selected. But if it not selected then select it.

The FolderFlags addon - once installed will display a three dot icon on the right. Click on it and select 'Manage' Under 'Details' tab 'Allow automatic addons' I have 'default' selected because I have already selected the drop down option as mentioned above. Othewise select 'On'.

re:Under updates there is 'use a background service to install updates' checked That option is in Thunderbird 'Settings' > 'General' inder 'Updates' This is to do with Thunderbird updates. Selecting it by passes your computer asking if it is ok to do the update. Unchecking that option forces your computer to ask if it is ok for the update to make changes to your computer.
