I allowed an auto-update from 102.2 to 102.3, and my installation of Thunderbird will no longer delete messages from the server. I never had a problem previously, so this is exactly the opposite of what the 102.3 release notes claim to have fixed.

I use the POP3 setting, and I have a preference of "leave messages on server until I delete them."

When I look at the popstate.dat file after closing T-Bird all the messages have a "k" at the beginning instead of "d".

It appears that whatever was "fixed" did not work in my case.

I tried reinstalling 102.3 from scratch, but there was no change.

I switched back to 102.2, and everything works correctly again.

I have not seen any other comments like this, so I do not know if there is something unusual in my installation. Not aware of any other problems, and I do not have any extensions at all.

Hello

maybe you could try to look at the debug window after setting mailnews.pop3.loglevel to 'All' and see if a DELE command is issued to the server when you do a retrieve mail operation.

No responses, but the problem still exists.

My wife's computer, which is totally separate, shows the same problem. After the auto-upgrade there is no way to delete messages from the server. TBird 102.3, Windows 11. Comcast POP3 email account.

I see there are two new "bug fix releases", 102.3.1 and 102.3.2, but the release notes make no mention of this problem or a fix.

We are still on very limited connectivity after Hurricane Ian, so I have not tried to download these latest fixes yet.

The DELE command appears to be completely controlled by the "d" flag in popstate.dat. When the "d" is present the DELE command is sent. When the "k" flag is set the DELE command is not sent.

This is true for any version I looked at.

My original concern was that the popstate.dat flag was not being changed from "k" to "d" when a message was deleted. This worked in 102.2.2 (and all previous versions) but did not work in 102.3.0.

However, I have just tried 102.3.3, and the correct behavior seems to be back.

I will consider this solved.
