Recently, emails from Nextdoor dot come stopped arriving at my Hotmail account. At about the same time, a Google Group was trying to send me an invitation. The moderators received an error message saying a setting was blocking it each time they tried.

It seems as though there are hundreds of webpages of settings between the three sites (Hotmail, Google Groups, Firefox). I've checked everywhere I can find, but if there is a particular page or setting to fix this, I cannot find it or recognize it.

Hotmail wants to examine my email settings, but I am uncomfortable allowing anyone access, and I don't think the problem is there. Google Groups tried its best but had only the one suggestion that did not help. I'm left with Firefox. I have changed some settings over time, but I don't remember them all, and nothing stands out when I look for a solution.

My Firefox browser is the most recent version, 84.0.2.

Any help you can suggest will be sincerely appreciated. Diana Penhaven

Hi Diana, I'm not sure how junk mail filtering/bouncing works in the consumer edition of Outlook (handling Hotmail accounts). There is a settings panel --

https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/mail/junkEmail

-- but it doesn't seem to give you an obvious way to manage blocking/bouncing.

I think you'll need to get help from Microsoft, but I don't think they would normally request to look into your mailbox. They should be able to understand what is happening from their side. Maybe that was an unofficial support service that suggested that.

One thing I can say is that Firefox only gets involved when you log in and read your mail. Firefox is not filtering or rejecting messages to your account.

I guess perhaps an add-on might go into your account, but probably you do not have any add-ons like that. You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything here that seems related to mail or mail notifications? Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.

Any improvement?
