Firefox will not open any urls or links

I started work this morning and noticed that Firefox was not opening my homepage. I tried a range of urls but none are opening. Both Chrome and Edge are working as expected (I'm on windows 10 ) I have just downloaded and installed the latest version of FF from the website, cleared the cache and cookies but none of these work.

I would first like to know how and why this could happen to a browser - whose ONLY purpose is to display websites.

I do not want to have to expert all my bookmarks and set up a working environment in another browser.

I have looked online and tried all the "solutions" - to no avail.

Let's discuss what could cause this as so far there is no solution.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
