the other day (thursday to be exact) a random page on youtube started constantly refreshing over and over and over again. it started without warning and I have exhausted multiple measures in stopping it. sometimes I can access another page/watch a video but it eventually always returns back to the same one page. I have tried turning my pc off and re-started. I have done the "about:config" to block element and turn to true and re-started. I have refreshed the browser. I added a no script add on but that concept is completely foreign to me and it seems to be a bit more advance than to what I am capable of understanding. this is the first time (that I'm aware of) that something like this has ever happened. I was using it (youtube) wednesday and it was working just fine then I wake up and it starts/ed doing this.

tried to upload a short video example of what it is doing but I don't know how. if someone can help me in that regard if it is uncertain exactly what I am talking about and to make fixing this problem easier.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Note: I once had the same problem. I found that it was caused by a form filling add-on.

Hi Jacob, NoScript is probably overkill for an issue with a single site.

I see you were able to post something in another thread:

I don't suppose it helps to press the Esc key rapidly several times in a row?

The problem may be spreading, there are a few new threads about YouTube reloading or loading unexpected pages:

I don't know what the common thread is, other than being logged in to your YouTube account. Hopefully we'll get some new information soon.

If you used Firefox Refresh, normally it wouldn't be this, but did you reinstall an extension named YouTube High Definition? That has been linked to this problem:

https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/aesm24/youtube_redirecting_to_a_channel/

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Try removing YouTube High Definition, and anything you do not remember installing or why.

Any improvement (test YouTube in a new tab)?

I THINK I got it figured out/fixed. I had to delete an extension I had. ironically it was something for youtube (something I probably had for a few years too) that I guess just went bad all of a sudden. but the problem appears to have ceased.

thanks.
