Why does Firefox open 8-9 processes (7 Firefox icons are nested under main icon in Task Manager Processes) with 1 Console Window Host running. Browser SLOW.
I can hear the hard drive grinding, the browser has slowed to almost useless, and there seem to be multiple versions of Firefox running AND a Windows Console Host. Why the WCH running under Firefox?!?
This normally smells like a security breach to me, but nowadays, I don't know. I have multiple top consumer security software running, but that doesn't mean any of it is working.

It's not unusual to have 5-7 processes when you have a lot of tabs open. By default, Firefox will generate multiple content processes. You can adjust that downwards if you like (to get closer to 2-3 processes, total). This article has the steps: Firefox's performance settings.
I'm not sure what the console process is. That does not sound like a typical thing Firefox would launch. Do you use any add-ons that coordinate with an external program? You probably would remember that a second download required to make the add-on do what it's supposed to do.
Thanks for the info. Would/could/should an approved, presumably safe Add-On open a console window?
I was trying some tab managers when I noticed it.
The add-ons site does not review the "extra" programs, so if any of your extensions had an extra download, try disabling those first.
Does "not review" mean extras could have security issues?

Just so I understand...the add-on site allows add-ons to be distributed to millions of people through Firefox without any quality control or safety check on their functionality?

For extensions distributed on the Mozilla Add-ons site, there is an automated review first, then they are made available, then some add-ons are reviewed by humans based on some prioritization (I don't know the details). External programs are not reviewed; they are distributed by add-on publishers separately from extensions.

Have you confirmed that this is caused by an add-on? For example:
Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.
If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)
If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).
