How do I turn off hot keys? I don't want to type and have my emails continually disappear.

Is there any way to disable the hot keys option for Thunderbird? I'm tired of typing keys (when I think I'm in another application) and then my emails start going through marking them as read, archiving and Ignoring Threads. Can't afford to try and figure out what letter caused what email to disappear.

Here is a list of default hotkeys so you know the effects certain key combinations can produce.

For example: If you have selected to read an email in the Message Pane and you have focus on that message and then you press 'A' key, then you are sending an instruction to perform a particular action on that message, to Archive the message.

You cannot switch off the hotkeys as they are there by default to enable users to move around and select items and make actions via a keyboard - not everyone can use a mouse and as I discovered on one occassion when my mouse failed suddenly, hotkeys were very useful in completing my email, reading emails and shutting down Thunderbird etc.

But you can change what a hotkey does with an addon extension, but I'll admit I've not used it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_extension

There is a newer version of keyconfig that installs and runs correctly in TB 45:
