Is this on Google? If you are running Firefox in its default mode where it remembers history, the links usually appear in a different color after you visit them. If you are in a private window, or if you have set Firefox not to store history, then this feature might not work. Do you think that might be a factor?

Yup, it was the history setting. I had it set to remove when I left a site. Setting it to remain until I close Firefox now shows visited links in a different color.
